Mixed feelings.
We went for a Sunday roast after it being reccomended. Parking was the first issue as it was so busy, not their fault as they only have so much capacity and obviously a very popular spot. The lido car park wasn't taking card payment so we couldn't park there either and the garden centre wouldn't let us park there. We eventually found a space 10 minutes after our booking time. Maybe you can pre book the valet parking - or maybe it is first come first served?
The welcome host was so lovely and the venue is beautiful, we were sat in the side bar which is smaller not as beautiful as the flower garden and very hot. We ordered through the app - you're asked to tip there before receiving food or service and this is optional so I decided to wait and tip around the end as per normal experience. We tipped as always after ordering extra drinks at the end, otherwise I expect you could leave cash for your server.
My starter was pate and was very tasty loved the onion marmalade.
The rare beef roast was divine, the ultimate roast was even better. The pork, lamb beef, chicken and slow cooked beef was so so good. They gave us a jug of gravy! Thank you! Finally a place where you don't have to worry about a gravy shortage. The roast potatoes were delish, as was the stuffing, pigs in blankets and broccoli and cauliflower cheese. Personal opinion but the carroway seeds on the carrotts was not to my taste.
The dessert I had to ask for as it never came and I felt we had been forgotten. Even though our area had cleared out by this point 4pm - we ordered a creme brulee with the Nutella suprise. It wasn't something I felt went well together. But the presentation was beautiful.
I would go back but I wouldn't go at 2pm.on a Sunday which seems to be a very busy time for them. Hope next time will be smoother and we will get the service for the...
Read moreWent here with my nephew for a Sunday Roast... Food was great value (we both opted for the Beef Roast as it was strangely cheaper than the other options- normally it's more expensive)... Everything was well cooked and presented and we ate everything on our plates, apart from the cauliflower cheese! Please, can you give an option to delete this or provide an alternative? Service was so-so... It was very busy and on many occasions, we needed to call a member of staff to serve us.. and even afterwards, we still needed to call them for a second time... The maitre d' apologized and removed the service charge from our bill (we didn't know there was one) as well as removing the cost of the soft drink my nephew ordered (he was the 'designated driver' on this outing'!) As far as the atmosphere goes, this is my personal opinion: I found it a bit over done... With the over styled tables and hanging indoor plants and music playing in the background (I hate music playing when I'm eating as it distracts from the food! And kind of tells the diner to hurry up and eat up)... Personally, when I go for a roast Sunday dinner, I like a more old fashioned country pub, with no music, and you can see the farmer who reared the beef in his Wellington Boots stood at the bar! But that's just wishful thinking! The food was great, service so-so, and the atmosphere was not to my taste... But I'd still recommend it and would happily visit again: It's a clean, hygienic placeand the food is well made and great value and a pleasure to eat... Just hoped for somewhat better service (for which they apologized), and that they didn't play music (I already explained why I don't like music whilst I'm eating) and was a bit more in the countryside! But...
Read moreA really disappointing evening at Arens Bar. We were a family of 6 celebrating an early Mother’s Day meal. On arrival, the music was full blast and I asked to be seated in a quiet area as we had a baby in our party. The waiter seemed to forget this and when we asked again, he advised the music was stopping at 5.30, which to be fair, it did.
There is a button for service, but despite this, the service was slow throughout. We repeatedly had empty glasses, having finished the bottle. We had to switch drinks as the wine we wanted had run out (despite being 100ft or so from Majestic). We seemed continuously to be waiting to catch the eye of a waiter.
We were still eating our starters when the waiter started trying to give us our mains (it was not like there was only one eating, we had only had the starters for 5 minutes). The waitress did admit this was a mistake and apologised. The food (unlike previous visits) was only so so, and the steak was the smallest we had ever seen, despite what is a high price relative to the local area.
We rushed to leave as the children were getting distressed, and there were a number of incorrect items on the bill. We were charged for the onion ring tower which never arrived and also for the child’s ice cream which should have been in the price of the child’s meal. We were not offered any discount/concession and we didn’t say anything because we just wanted to get out of there.
All in all, a real disappointment and I could only apologise to my mum and sister in law, for whom this visit should have been a treat, but in all actuality, it was just an all...
