We came to Miller & Carter for a meal last night. We had a wonderful experience, the food was excellent and the service was very good.
Decor/music/toilet:
The decor is lovely here, the decor is very smart and gives a cosy atmosphere. The music was nice too. The toilet was very clean as well which is always a bonus. The restaurant was very busy even on a Wednesday night so I would definitely recommend booking the table in advance.
Service:
Very good. The waiter serving us was very friendly and very good with my gluten allergy. He noticed my gluten free menu in front of me and said that it was a gluten free order as soon as he started serving me before I said anything. The food came out very quickly so we didn’t have to wait too long. Also I feel extra safe eating at Miller & Carter because they hold a coeliac accreditation and they served all my food first and then the rest of the food came in close succession. My starter and main were served with a flag because of the allergy which was good.
Food:
General food/Gluten Free menu:
The food at Miller & Carter was amazing. They always serve up delicious food and the portion sizes are brilliant here! Around 10 years ago Miller & Carter used to be one of the poorest restaurant chains for gluten free choice but now they have completely turned themselves around. They now have an extensive gluten free menu available with a wide variety of choice. I was spending ages deciding what I wanted. The ribs and lamb rump sounded very tempting. I was impressed with the choice of steaks too, they have steaks for all sorts of budgets too, they have steaks priced right from around 20 pounds to around 70 pounds(this steak option is a sharing platter). If Steak is not your thing do not worry because they have loads of fish/seafood dishes on staters and mains and also other options such as Ribs and the Lamb Rump. They have an extensive dessert menu too and a good gluten free choice for desserts too.
Starter-Baked Cheddar Mushrooms with gluten free toast as an accompaniment:
This is my favourite starter dish at Miller & Carter. The portion was super generous, they gave loads of mushrooms. The taste was amazing as always too. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The cheddar cheese and gluten free bread was delicious too.
Main-Black Angus Prime Rump Steak 7oz with chips.
General explanation about the dish:
This meal was delicious. It only cost just over 21 pounds for this dish. The steak comes with the lettuce wedge with a dressing of your choice,a sauce and a side. With the actual steak itself it comes with a butter,an Onion Loaf,a Tomato and some Watercress. I think that is very good value for money especially for an Angus Steak as well and also with the lettuce wedge because the lettuce wedge could act as a starter despite that it is meant to be a palate cleanser. This dish is enough to have just on its own as a main. I actually asked for the dish to come with no sauce and no lettuce wedge. Despite the modifications I made to the dish,I still found it to be great value.
The Steak meat itself:
Despite that it was recommended medium,I asked for the steak to be well done. The Steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. The Steak had so much flavour and also the Steak was so juicy and tender. The signature butter added a light creaminess too.
Onion Loaf + Watercress:
The Onion Loaf was delicious and very satisfying to eat. The Watercress had a lot of flavour too.
Chips:
The chips were served in a separate cup to the Steak. The chips were delicious and well salted. Also the chips were a good portion size too.
Dessert-Ice Cream:
I fancied something light and sweet so I went for the Ice Cream. The Ice Cream is served with a gluten free twirl which was delicious. The three scoops I chose were the Double Chocolate,Raspberry and Coconut. The Raspberry scoop was delicious and had a very refreshing and fruity flavour. The Coconut Scoop was very refreshing too. The Double Chocolate had such a deep chocolate flavour,it...
Read moreWe've been regulars to Miller & Carter since they 1st opened. Dining at several restaurants. But sadly they have lost their edge. Standards have gone down. The staff and management don't seem to care much these days. The restaurants are becoming tired looking. The chairs tables are becoming shabby. Food under the tables and on seats, table tops not being cleared . It's almost feeling like we're dining in a Harvester! Unprofessional waiting staff. They barely give you the time of day let alone service with a smile. The only time they give you 5 minutes is when you pay the bill, then they suddenly have time to smile and make conversation, as after a tip! We were served by Jill this Sat evening at Ruislip. We could excuse poor service when you can see the restaurants understaffed and the server is rushed off their feet. But this was not the case. She made no effort . 20mins before she even attended our table, then to take our meal choice, hadn't even thought to take a drink order which hadn't previously been taken! Both our meals arrived in good time and both cooked well. But once finished, empty plates and glasses. Got fed up with Jill walking by doing nothing to clear our plates or offer more drinks or even bring dessert menus, so we placed everything on table beside us. Even then she glanced over several times and still didn't come to our table. Finally we managed to get her attention and request drinks and dessert menus. She took them from another diners table and stood directly over us expecting us to give her our choices instantly. I sent her away! Well my husband had drunk his pint by the time we managed to get her attention again to place our order. The sticky toffee was not worth the wait. Very average. Sadly steaks have gone up and you get less , they've cut back on portion sizes too. We've experienced pretty similar from their other restaurants too. So won't be...
