Serving overpriced & often tasteless dishes where the staff don't wash their hands after visiting the urinals which is an unhygienic & dangerous practice in these times when infectious diseases are being spread. & how long are the ingredients kept in the freezer before being cooked 🍳 & served or is it the air blowing around above the head that affects the taste of what one is eating? 13.4.22 Ridiculous that customers are allowed to smoke & vape in this so called eating establishment where staff are seen to fall ill requiring ambulance's to be called! 9.7.22 Tasty(? - see below) food served by friendly stall owners. 31.8.22 Some of the vendors are not serving fresh food which has been lying in the freezer for sometime nor cooking them properly afterwards for serving which is then tasteless! 21.12.22 Often tasteless & overpriced food is being served in some of the outlets at this venue! The meat 🍖 is often tough. 20.2.23 Food looks nicer in the pictures ! Nice ice-cream though. 25.2.23 Reasonable food & nice ice cream. Please please please avoid this like a plague during the weekends especially times of holidays like Ramadan or school holidays.
It was extremely busy here non stop I couldn't even enjoy the birthday celebration with a peaceful heart. There were just lack of seats, and this place is NOT the general ideal place to conduct celebrations or events.
I would give it 4 stars but I give it 3 stars because majority of the stores there all do similar dishes. There are almost 15+ Asian countries and in the store we have around 5 or 6 Asian stores, majority being Chinese.
Aside from that, they all do similar dishes. And I wish some of them do smaller dishes so that you can order some dishes from other stores however they all serve large portions.
The prices are expensive, and also due to the inflation, the prices were pushed up. A typical food starts from £8+, however you will get your money's worth as the portion sizes were large.
I tried the Japanese koji chilli chicken for £9 and I got 6/7 large pieces with lettuce and I couldn't finish it. I also ordered from Bali the Bali style rice, it was supposed to be yellow rice but I got special fried rice. And it cost £12.98 I believe and it came as a meal, rice with sliced fried chicken, Mongolia beef, Bali prawn crackers and lettuce. The portion was big and I couldn't finish it.
The Vietnam Che teas were awesome, especially the mango magic which is a MUST try, you will not be disappointed. Water is expensive, you can be paying almost £2 for bottle of water, so make sure you have spare water bottle with you. The place was so crowded it was very hot that one of my friend's baby had heat stroke later on! They must do something about this as it is a risk of health and safety.
Every shop takes card and cash. You can buy traditional meals, to general Asian takeaway meals, to desserts and wine. It's all available here. Plenty of hand sanitizers available when you enter through the front of Foodhall. Some stores offer discounts for buying from them to use at neighbouring stores, such as the Japanese store Yaki Yaki.
When you place an order at potentially any store, you will be given a waiting device, which will vibrate when your order is ready to be collected, but note that some of them are old devices and do not vibrate. Just look out for the flashing light. Store at the end next to the toilet does Blue Light Card discount, so use that to get takeaway container or water. Every store I believe does take away container but they charge I believe £0.50p. A store and some stores do have vegetarian options available.
This is a nice place but it is too small and crowded. Many people were so nice to offer up chairs they are not using. You will see people moving chairs here and there. Even some people can be hanging around you waiting for you to finish, which feels so uncomfortable! A lady was so nice to offer up her table so we can use for the 8 of us.
And I heard this place used to be larger in size but they trimmed it down. It is a nice place to go to if you want to try out: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Malaysian, Indonesian, Vietnam, Taiwanese dishes and desserts. They need to have more such as Philippines, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Laos, Mongolian, Burma, Nepal, Taiwan, Singapore and Sri Lankan.
I recommend this place only go weekdays, and be prepared to spend a...
Read moreLoved it. As someone who often has a hard time deciding on food cos I want a little bit of everything, it was a bit of a task but a fun one!
I think we made all the best choices. It is what it is: a busy Asian foodhall. To expect fine dining or astounding creativity and quality is pointless. You will only be disappointed. Expect a regular old food court, and you will be happy (cos it's better than that).
What stood out was the variety of stalls. It wasn't just a bunch of cheap Japanese bento boxes, day-old sushi rolls, and suspicious Chinese-British takeaway. It was legit. There is Thai, Chinese (various cuisines), Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Macanese, Singaporean, Filipino, Malay, Indonesian, Hakka, etc.
We chose Royal China (dim sum), Orchid (Singapore), and drinks from Citropia. Was it the best Hainanese Chicken Rice I've ever had? No. But it was solid. The rice was especially good, hitting all the right tasting notes. After our less than mediocre experience at Royal China Sichuan, trying another Royal China was a gamble but this one is all about dim sum, and only dim sum. All their offerings we tried were good. Especially pleased by the salted egg yolk bun, which I was absolutely craving and had to get.
Drinks from Citropia were also really tasty. Ngl, I wasn't in the mood for bubble tea and it didn't look that great, so we grabbed a juice and a smoothie instead. It was the better choice, I think.
After not having Chinese food for a while, we had specific dishes we really wanted and this place delivered, and well. Flavours were all on point.
I see a lot of complaints about it, but I think that really comes down to expectations, palate, and choice of vendor. Just don't get Japanese. It's very, very rarely good at any food court/street hawker sort of place outside Asia. You may as well grab sushi takeaway at M&S Food or Itsu. It'll be the same. Same goes for a lot of Thai offerings. Playing it safe at an Asian foodhall is not the way to go. It's certainly 100 times better than most of Chinatown if you know what to order.
This is not a quiet, sit-down restaurant or even a shopping mall food court. It's loud, animated, a bit chaotic, just like an Asian street market.
I found the system of disc buzzers very organized and efficient. We didn't have a poor experience with any staff. Everyone was efficient as well, if not friendly. Don't give attitude and be clear, and you won't get attitude. You're not going to get personalized service with a big smile and caring about all your individual feelings. These people are not working for tips (although tips are appreciated!). This is a fancy food market, but not that fancy. They want you to like your food.
Honestly, I thought it was a really legit foodhall experience. I've been to a bunch in various countries with various cuisines and this has been the best one. Like most, they're going to be a bit pricey, based on the city and convenience. I'd definitely return to try other vendors, as well as...
