Bar + Block Steakhouse, King's Cross: Great for Drinks, Not Steaks
Bar + Block Steakhouse in King's Cross is a convenient option for a casual meal or drinks, especially if you're staying at the attached Premier Inn hotel. However, if you're after a top-notch steak experience, you might want to look elsewhere.
Getting There: The restaurant is very well-connected by public transport:
Tube: King's Cross St. Pancras Station is served by the Piccadilly Line, Northern Line, Hammersmith & City Line, Circle Line, Metropolitan Line and Victoria Line. Bus: Numerous buses stop at King's Cross Station, including the 63, 73, 91, 205, and more. Parking: Finding parking in the area can be tricky, with very limited options around the hotel. Consider using public transport for your visit.
A Celebration with Mixed Results: Our group of over 20 enjoyed celebrating a birthday at Bar + Block. The staff, both at the bar and in the restaurant, were excellent. They were friendly, attentive, and handled our large group efficiently. An additional perk is their daily Happy Hour running from 4PM to 8PM, offering deals on drinks.
Also be savvy with your ‘Small Plates’ too. For example they offer 3 small plates for £16 or 4 for £21. I think the offer for 3 will suit 2 people dining. And the offer for 4 small plates for 3 people.
Food: Not Quite There: Unfortunately, the food fell short of expectations.
The steaks, the restaurant's namesake, were a disappointment. Some cuts were tough and lacked tenderness, while the chicken dishes were also on the dry side.
The gravy seemed watery and lacked flavor, and the Salt & Pepper Squid consisted mostly of batter with minimal squid.
Even the Harissa Chicken Burger required some DIY assembly, as the sauce came on the side.
Some of the roast dinners were wasted.
The only food items that I found were decent were:
King Prawns Canadian King Scallops Flat Bread
For the seafood, ask for extra garlic butter which will make it more tastier.
Ambiance and Cleanliness: On the plus side, the restaurant boasts a pleasant atmosphere. The light wood tone decor creates a warm and inviting space. Additionally, the toilets were clean and well-maintained.
Overall: Bar + Block Steakhouse in King's Cross is a good option for drinks, with friendly staff and a daily Happy Hour. However, due to the inconsistency with the food quality, I wouldn't recommend it for a special...
Read moreA great choice for a sit down restaurant in a very busy and tourist heavy area of London. With ease of access to dozens of hotels in the immediate 500 meter to 1 kilometer walking area, this steakhouse is a great choice for the tired tourist who is staring at Google maps at 8pm looking for something a small step up from Nandos to eat at.
The atmosphere is warm and cozy, plenty of seating was to be found on a Monday evening. The entrance was a little bit hard to place when walking up following Google maps but once you found the corner it does become apparent.
The staff were quick and attentive, I ended up choosing the Steak Sampler with an additional topping of their Garlic Mushrooms, Peppercorn Sauce, and Garlic Canadian Scallops, and finished the night with a pudding of a Triple Chocolate Brownie w/ Ice Cream. Going through the meal options of the night the Steak Sampler was definitely one of the better examples of beef I had while on vacation to the UK and was cooked to a requested medium rare. The Peppercorn Sauce was more than ample for the steaks that came with the sampler, which were all about 4 ounce rounds of Rump, Sirloin, and Gammon. This did come with a side of Onion Rings which was notably a sweet onion with a good quality breading and Chunky Steak Chips. The Garlic Canadian Scallops ordered as an extra side were extremely delicious with the evident taste of garlic and soft texture when eating off the shell. The Garlic Mushrooms were a personal favorite as a side, however it should be noted that the reviewer has a soft spot for mushrooms and does eat them on a regular basis no matter what.
The ending pudding of the night was a solid entrant with the brownie being warm on arrival to the plate while the ice cream was freshly plated on top of the brownie with it not having shown any signs of melting yet. The smaller chocolate chunks added greatly to the texture and were a quality finisher for the night.
Overall for the price, it leaves you filled and has a great taste. When in a pinch and looking to sit down and relax for the night this certainly isn't a bad choice for the...

Reserved a table for 8:00pm, arrived there on time, waited 20 minutes of server just to bring a bottle of water, I ended up asking politely to bring a bottle of water to the table.
Then we ordered two main courses, two drinks. One is 10 oz. ribeye steak and the other is salmon. Starter was tasty but felt like I spent £1.5 for each scallops. After finishing starter in 10 min, Waited another 40 miniutes of main dishes to arrive. Only one main (the steak) arrived and for the other main (fish) the order did not go through. The steak however was perfectly cooked as medium except the fact I ordered medium rare. The photo with uncut steak is the one I returned back to the kitchen. Both waited another 25-30 minutes when the server said it would take roughly 5-10 minites.
So we had our main meal at 9:30 after 1hr and 30 minutes of waiting. The food was great with such price, but it was quite questionable if they discriminate people over look. I certainly don’t have a British accent, but I do speak English fluent enough to attend the research meetings and have an active conversations with others.
We, a friend of mind and I, were looking for a nice steak for me and vegetarian menu for my friend. As seen in pictures, the food itself is great. The server nor the manager wasn’t sorry nor thanking for waiting such long time, they worried more of other important things which you could clearly see and hear as well.
The bar was moody, cozy, and more welcoming than the restaurant booth. Ordered “something I cannot taste the alcohol, not too strong but strong enough to enjoy the summer night” and i got “americano martini” which was great! It perfectly fits with the descriptions. Skipped the desserts as we...
