Very disappointing experience!
Walked in early evening with my 2 children. We were greeted by a waitress, who gave menus for my children and I, then brought drinks over to the table.
Then the owner (or a woman who said she was) came over and said I cannot order from the fixed price menu as only 1 adult....... I explained there are 3 of us ordering food & drinks. She said NO you cannot order! Took the menu off me and said I can only order from the full price menu!
I looked around me, the interior of the restaurant was very basic. It was more like a basic cafe interior than a quality restaurant but we would have eaten here had the owner not put us off. There were also absolutely no customers in the restaurant and the time was close to 7pm. I pointed this out and said 3 of us are ordering, but she wasn’t having any of it.
I was not about to pay expensive prices for dishes in this restaurant that in my opinion cannot justify those high prices, just because the owner didn't seem to like young children in the restaurant. I quickly worked out that this is because if they are above 11 years old, they have to pay the adult price. Mine were younger.

Read moreAbsolutely furious with my experience at Bento Restaurant today. I’ve been a loyal customer for at least five years, ordering from them every week or two without fail. I used to rave about them to everyone—loved the food, loved the service, and even met the previous owner who was a lovely person. I have literally spent thousands of pounds at this place over the years.
But today? Complete disaster. According to ALL of their websites and information, they close at 10:30. I walked in at 10:10, expecting to be able to place an order with 20 minutes to spare before closing. What do I find? EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE standing by the door, already with their coats on, ready to leave. We politely reminded them that they’re supposed to be open for another 20 minutes and what do they do? Pretend they don’t speak English and just mumble, “kitchen already cleaned and shut.”
I am SO DONE with restaurants like this. If you're not willing to stay open for the hours you advertise, THEN CHANGE YOUR DAMN HOURS. Don’t just close early and leave paying customers standing there, especially when you’ve been profiting off them for YEARS. Honestly, I’m disgusted. This restaurant just lost someone who has spent thousands of pounds there over the last five years. I’ll never be coming back, and I’ll make sure everyone knows how they treat their customers.
