What a fabulous night we had at Brown's in Kingston to celebrate my 50th! Huge thanks to the whole Browns team.
Having eaten in Browns many times over the years, and always had good food and service, when it came to looking for somewhere to celebrate my special birthday I thought Browns would be a good choice...and I was right! I was looking for somewhere stylish with enough room to invite 100-150 people for drinks.
Naturally, whenever you organise something like this you do so with trepidation but I can honestly say from the moment Hannah answered my first enquiry it was seamless. Hannah communicated when she said she would, answered every question I had (there were many) and was accommodating at every step of the way. What a great events co-ordinator she is. With everything in place Hannah reassured me it would be a great evening and it was.
Earlier in the day, I had taken balloons and a couple of banners along so that I could decorate later when I arrived. Santos, who has served me many times, greeted me with a smile, told me not to worry and said he'd sort it. Later, when I arrived, the team had made the area look fabulous. I had opted for the main downstairs area where it is spacious and near the beautiful cocktail bar. Lots of the tables had been cleared to create more space, leaving some seating for those who chose to sit.
As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted by Christine and introduced to Francisco and both were on hand whenever I needed them throughout the evening. Christine brought me over a glass of fizz and we chatted about the evening ahead, immediately making me relaxed. I had asked that everyone receive a welcome drink on arrival and Christine and Francisco co-ordinated that, making sure my guests were well looked after. Shout out too, to the pianist that Hannah had arranged for me, such a nice touch as my guests arrived.
Throughout the whole evening, the team - Christine, Francisco, Santos, Costas, Rocio, Esmaily and Xhesi worked tirelessly and professionally to cater to my guests every need, always with a smile. We weren't rushed to leave at the end, settling up with Francisco was seamless and everyone (including me) had the best time.
I wish to thank the whole team at Browns Kingston. Browns Management, I'm sure you already know but you are very lucky to have this team :)
If you are looking for a place to celebrate something special with a team who work hard, seem to enjoy their jobs and won't let you down then consider holding your event at Browns, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Browns, Kingston and was so impressed I went back for my birthday meal on the following Saturday with 5 of my family which was just delicious with once again, great service.
Good job, Browns Kingston...

This was hands down one of the most unpleasant and disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had – and I’ve worked in hospitality for over 20 years, including 11 years as a head chef. I know how tough this industry is, but that’s exactly why respect and honesty should be the standard, not the exception.
I came with a friend for a Sunday roast – we chose this place for its riverside location and live music. After being seated, I asked the waitress about non-alcoholic drinks. She had no idea, handed me the menu, and shrugged when I asked for a refreshing recommendation. Already a bit unprofessional, but we let it slide.
I ordered the Trio Sunday Roast, asking if the portion was enough for two. She confirmed it was. She also asked about the doneness of the sirloin – I said medium rare.
After 30 minutes, a completely different plate arrived – a single meat roast with one small piece of steak. I politely told her this must be a mistake, as I had clearly ordered the trio. She denied it, acted annoyed, and took the plate back without a word of apology.
She returned shortly after and – strangely – asked me again about the doneness. I repeated: medium rare.
Another 30 minutes passed, and the Trio Roast finally arrived – but the sirloin was shocking. So thin it looked like a piece of dried carpaccio, completely overcooked, dry, and borderline inedible.
I called the waitress back and said this doesn’t look or taste like medium rare. She suddenly claimed: “We don’t serve different doneness on Sunday roasts.” So I asked – why did you ask me about it twice?
She flat out denied ever asking me – even though I was not alone at the table and had a witness. When I pointed that out, she said I was lying.
And then came the worst part – the floor manager arrived with an aggressive, patronizing attitude, interrupting me mid-sentence with “Now I will speak”, and dismissing everything I said. She didn’t listen, didn’t apologize, and clearly sided with her staff without verifying anything. At that point, I decided to put down my cutlery and walk out. The food no longer mattered – the disrespect and humiliation were too much.
Absolutely no professionalism from the staff Waitress didn’t know the menu Miscommunication, denial, and outright lying Aggressive, arrogant manager with no conflict resolution skills Zero responsibility or willingness to fix mistakes
This restaurant has potential – great location, nice setting – but until the attitude changes, I would strongly advise others to stay away. The food didn’t ruin the experience –...
Read moreI have been to this branch of Browns on many occasions and always had great service and the right amount of attention, but on this occasion I was disappointed with the whole experience of Browns in Kingston. On arrival, as a party of 4 adults and 1 child, we were lead to a table in side room, although there were many empty tables in the main part of the restaurant, and it was a good 30 minuets before anyone came to take our drinks order. Once we had placed our orders for food, although when I asked for the burger to be medium rare I was told this was not possible and my comment was "the meat is not fresh then" and the waiter agreed, but was assured the burger was good. We then waited 45 minuets for our starters to arrive, and when they did arrive, mine was wrong, so by the time the correct starter I ordered arrived all my friends had finished with there's. The mains came, and were ok, my burger was meh, but edible. Our plates were cleared and we asked for the desert menu. After waiting for roughly 30 minuets and no menu, my friend went to ask a waitress for them and he was told she was not serving our section. Another waiter appeared and we aired our overall dissatisfaction with the overall experience and how we felt shoved to the back, especially as there were still empty tables in the main part, and wondered if it had anything to do with our group. Would I go back to Browns Kingston...I can say its at the bottom of the list and the group of friends I was entreating, will not. An overall sad and...
