I first used this pub thirty five years ago and haven't been in it for over 10 years , today I thought it would be nice to revisit and have lunch with my partner , I appreciate it is going through a refurb and that appears to be going well , when ordering the burger and fries meal ,the gentleman asked if we wanted bacon , at first I declined as we both can only eat bacon if extremely well done and didn't wish to spoil our meal, I. Enquired if it can be done 'well done' in fact cremated ! I was told "no probelm we will make sure it's crispy" Unfortunately after as fifteen to twenty minutes wait it arrived in the condition which wasn't as promised ! Half cooked with greasy fat . To the point we both had to remove it and leave it on the side wasted ! When paying the bill I was gob smacked to be charged extra £2.50 for it when in fact this wasn't mentioned at ordering, I did bring this up when paying which was met with some attitude but eventually was told it would be removed from the bill , but this blew the chance of a tip ! Whilst waiting for my partner to return to the table the waiter went to the kitchens, After a couple of minutes my partner returned and said " I guess you didn't pay for the bacon " my response was somewhat bewildered as to how she knew? She then went to tell me that while in the ladies bathroom the waiter and chef were in heated discussion as to the justification of me not paying for the bacon ! She heard swear using the most expletive language f*k several times at volume questioning my judgement . Normally I wouldn't have cared but for her to have to listen to such profanities was quite intolerable, once the waiter returned I went to see him and someone else whose role wasn't clear , a very poor attempt at an apology eventually and then I had to leave feeling thoroughly put off ever returning, it's a pity as the actual burger was pleasant, the attitude of staff quite unforgivable. I won't return and will never recommend The Bishop to anyone. Wish I had taken pictures of the poor attempt at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery bad food and service! I've never felt the need to write a bad review but we had a rubbish experience at The Bishop yesterday. So many things wrong. Firstly the place was completely understaffed so staff were running around like headless chickens and I had to go up to the bar and repeatedly ask for a table when I walked in. When I got one it wasn't cleaned so had to make another trip to the bar to ask them to clear it. Then had to go to the bar 3 times to order food because each time I went they told me something else was out of stock. The second time I just had to asked them to tell me everything that was unavailable, which was basically half the menu! They forgot my boyfriend's drink so he had to queue for almost 10 mins to ask them for it again. We had to settle on 2 chicken pies, calamari and Parmesan fries. I specifically asked for the Parmesan fries to come with the starter but instead all four dishes came together. If the food had been good then it probably would have made up for the shocking service but we both got a very soggy, half empty pie with a few strips of chicken in it, mash with barely any seasoning, red cabbage, and a thin bland gravy. The whole meal was just a bland mush. The calamari comprised chewy bits of batter with microscopic pieces of squid running through it. Parmesan fries was the best bit and all it was a (small) portion of fries with a bit of Parmesan grated across the top. When I went to the bar to pay (because the bill never came to our table and the table was never cleared of course) I explained I was unhappy to the bartender and she didn't offer much help or explanation. Probably somewhere to go for a drink and enjoy the river views but...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLovely place to dine in and bring the dog , as it was a very hot day yesterday we sat inside where it was nice and chilled from the air conditioning. Staff were friendly but very preoccupied as it was busy .
The food wasnāt anything to shout about and the prices are typical pub prices but slightly overrated, value for money it was not . My children had the kids burger meals and complained the burger was way to small and very chargrilled and slightly chewy with nothing else to their burger no lettuce or pickles just a burger and buns plain (dry as they called it ) and boring .
My Sunday roast chicken .... hmmmm .....that was very disappointing , potatoes were old and reheated still tasting like left overs from another day hot on the out side cold in the middle , the chicken was over cooked with the skin melted to the chicken and very dry (fed this to the dog) .... unfortunately I wouldnāt dine here again . The staff seemed to busy to even pop by to check on us , so on paying we mentioned this and the reaction was a WHOOPING .... Ah sorry ...
Shame really , I thought this would have been much better and a well managed restaurant provided where it was located .
On another note not that itās their duty to offer , they never bothered to offer a bowl of water for my dog ! Luckily we had our own .
Iād only recommend this place for a drink or two and the air conditioning for those...
