We like supporting local businesses so thought we would try this new venture out. It is set up as a “small plates” “large plates” menu but when we checked how this worked were told we had to order “starters” and “mains” so we were not quite sure why the menu had been set out like it had. Anyway, we had pani puri, the fish pakora and a chole samosa chaat to start. The pani puri were not as crunchy inside as we are used to (mostly filled with potato with little onion) but were tasty and the chaat was delicious. The fish had a nice batter. The mains, however, at £17+ a dish were not good. The dal makhani was watery and the malai kofta was nothing more than a tomato sauce. There was very little flavour in the kofta dish. We had the roti and paratha on these dishes and the bread was poor. It was just dense and perhaps slightly under cooked. It just did not have the right texture at all. I had a cocktail which was good. Overall, we are not sure whether this is just because it starting out but the large dishes did not feel like good value for money. If we were to go again, we might be tempted just to get small plates which were the better part of the meal.

While I am glad I came to Chit Chaat Barnet on New Year’s Eve I think it’s worth mentioning that while the food was decent, the quantity on the plates was not adequate. Before anyone labels me a glutton I can assure you that I am not(look at my other reviews of Indian restaurants throughout the UK) but there is something wrong when a lamb curry costs 18 quid, is not quite as slow cooked or delicately flavoured and arrives in a small dinner bowl. While the Palak Paneer was decent, the okra was cooked just right, hence the four stars but the service was way too slow with food deliveries taking priority over in restaurant customers. I get it: dinner is about chit chat hence the name of the restaurant but that shouldn’t mean waiting for 45 minutes for your mains to arrive especially when everything has been ordered when we arrived. That said the atmosphere in the restaurant is excellent and the decor unique to its theme: chit chat.

I went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend and I am blown away. The food was absolutely extraordinary. I am genuinely surprised by some of the reviews the food was smashing. And the way the dal makhani was presented… I mean you first eat with your eyes… and the cutlery used, the presentation and then ofcourse the flavour, every step of the journey of experiences the food was amazing. I’ve taken some terrible pictures with my phone ofcourse because we were so busy eating it was only much later we realised we should rate this amazing place so please don’t judge the food presentation by my phone photos. We ordered dal makhani and rice. Butter chicken and garlic naan. Chole bhatoore. Paneer and roti and the yummiest falooda icecream (gosh that was insanely good,) and moongdal halwa. Also loved the decor of the restaurant. Some lovely nooks and corners to take photos.

Needs to do a lot better if it wishes for customers to come back... The food was extremely poor and not authentic to the Indian culture. We started off with the small plates which were okay BUT considering they cost £9+ the portion size was horrendous and it just about fed 1 person. If you order the jeera soda please be aware it will take about 20-30 minutes before your drink arrives. The mains was the worst Indian food I've ever eaten (and i hate to say this about indian food being an indian), the paneer makahni was literally tomatoe soup with paneer chunks in it with the entire salt bottle thrown in, the dhal was simply just boiled with salt on top no flavour or tarka at all, the nan was basically burnt/turned into a crisp not freshly made appears to be store bought with butter and garlic drizzled across. The prices for both mains and starters were extortionate for what they were giving and there was just nothing wow nor with the presentation, food, taste or service to justify the price. However on the plus side the drinks were decent BUT what made our night was Sarah, she was lovely and truly tried to help, however the restaraunt owner as much as she was apologetic she blamed her chef having covid as the reason why the food was so poor and that the restaurant had 2 tables of 9 (my table) and another and they couldnt cope.. ideally the customer service from the owners needs to be a lot better (full disclosure we were not the only table to complain and ask for a refund). This evening ruined our night and celebrating a birthday.

There are better local indian restaraunts around (visit Abercorn, Tamil Prince, Bay Leaf etc) and I feel horrible saying this as I love supporting local businesses especially indian businesses but this was the biggest let down for food and I just can't recommend anyone to waste their money here and even waste food here.. we had to send all our mains back...

We were so excited to try this place but unfortunately were terribly disappointed. I had called up beforehand and was reassured that the specific set menus were available. We turn up to find that this was not the case and the set menus were very much restricted by half! We asked for our starters and mains to be served at the same time - they were not. They forgot to make the above mentioned set menu dishes so when they were reminded and it finally came, it was nearing the end of our meal. The icing on the cake....the butter chicken dish that was part of the meal had 2 and a half pieces of chicken! After speaking to the owner, there was no apology for the delay and the reason given behind the small portion was that it is part of a bigger set meal? When we asked for it to be taken off our order as by now... 1.we ended up sharing out the dishes we did get and had finished our meal It just was not worth the price To this, the owner said she would take it off the order and proceeded to take the dishes back to the kitchen. No offer to give it on the house seeing as they made a person wait so long for their meal. Time to pay - Did they take the dishes off our order? Nope, it was still on there

Such a horrible experience. I'm not one to write reviews but this definitely...
