Disappointment in staff's unprofessional behaviour yesterday at the Mauritius Independence Dinner & Dance.
I called on Monday 11th March to book tickets for 4 adults and a toddler (under 3) in which I had given my card details over the phone and was told that payment had gone through and to collect tickets at the event on the door.
From the moment that myself and my family arrived, we were met with hostility and told that our group of 5 were to be seated separately on tables 7 & 8, even though all the other families who had booked together, were seated together. When my husband had queried this with the staff at the door, he was told "well tables 7 & 8 are near each other" and then rudely dismissed.
When we'd gone to find our appropriate seats at table 7 & 8, we were shocked to find that there were no seats available and therefore, to not cause a scene and with a hungry child, we decided to sit at the vacant table 22 so we can eat starters. Only for the same staff member to come over and tell us to abruptly to move as the people who had booked table 22 had called and said they were on the way (they never showed up the entire night). Ignoring the fact that my child was eating and I'm also pregnant, our family in a nearby table offered for us to sit with them to save us any further embarrassment. To be clear, we hadn't even had a chance to eat starters because of all this confusion.
At this point I would like to reiterate at no point, no one had informed us that payment had not been taken upon booking of the tickets over the phone. Only during the night did the same staff member return after the rest of our group had arrived and whilst we were eating dinner, to say payment hadn't been taken and must be paid. Also, our guests had been told a different table number 1 as the table which we should be sitting on - how have we been told three different table numbers in one night! How unorganised are you? To my shock I was adamant payment had been taken as I had been told over the phone and I was now becoming quite upset about the whole experience now. My husband didn't appreciate the attitude and demenear of your staff at all in front of guests and family members.
By this point, we had been approached multiple times by staff/management about payment when payment could have just been charged to the appropriate card given all along.
The behaviour at the end was truly disgusting from your staff members, including Nitesh, with pulling my brother in law by his arm, shouting in my husband's face and refusing us to leave.
For future reference and for claiming to be a well established company, if you are not taking payment over the phone then you should not be asking for card details, expiry dates and security numbers. You should be directing your guests to the appropriate website to book tickets. This can be classified as fraud if you're asking for card details if you're not authorised to be asking for these sensitive details over the phone.
The overall experience was truly horrible and after previously having a good experience with this venue at past events, I will never be visiting this venue again and will be ensuring to advocate this experience to the rest of the Mauritian community to know of how you treat...
Read moreDiwali Dinner, Singer & Dancers 2024. Never been to any Diwali dinner event and so decided to try this venue with my family (3 adults) . I was expecting at least a good entertainment as advertised, and I thougt it could be better than sitting in a restaurant and just eat. I paid £37 per adult. So, I didn't really set my expectation high. I should begin with positive point: The venue was set up decently and beautifully. That's it.
CONS:
There are 9 chairs in each round table and so it would feel very uncomfortable if all seats are booked. You could be touching others elbows while eating. We were sitting with other guests whom we don't know and so since the pre-starters were buffet, it was quite awkward eating in front of the others who came late and later on staring at them while they were eating and us doing nothing. All lights were lit up brightly and so you clearly see each others face while eating. It could have been dimmed a little bit -they normally do this in other dinner events I'd been to.
The 2 singers were not entertaining at all. They were singing very slow and classical music from 70's 80's, while some of the guests were just standing and taking photos in the middle. It was quite a chaotic scene.
The buffet pre-starters were offered at 7.30 pm and the table service starter were supposedly be served at 8.30pm . During the waiting time, the only entertainment was the male and female singers who were taking turns. The atmosphere was really boring and you could see most of the guests were just waiting and not listening. I didn't see any performing dancers since I arrived between 7.15pm to 9.05pm. We decided to leave at 9.05pm since the starter, as part of the 3 course meal, were still not visible in any table. There were around 10-15 tables in the venue. So, I presumed that all would only get their proper starters by 9.30pm. There was a gap of 1hr and 15mins between the starter and the main course as per their published schedule. So since they were already 35mins behind schedule, that means the main course would be served by 10.45pm. We paid £112 in total for 3 of us and only consumed the pre-starter buffet ( 2 kinds only, of which 1 was chips). We were the first one to leave at 9.10pm as we felt it was not for us. But I saw some guys went out for a walk outside. It might be that others had enjoyed the rest of the evening but this event is not for someone who is looking for real entertainment and professional service. You get what pay for.
It would haven been a better experience if at least there was a gap of 30-45mins in between meal and service right on time. Hiring a proper entertainer/choosing right songs is a bonus. The performing dancers should be introduced first to pump up the mood, instead of a singer singing a slow song from the olden days. Attend with other groups you know , so you won't feel awkward sharing a table with other strangers since the venue table set-up is clearly for people who love to talk to strangers or come as a...
Read moreThis is the worse venue you can book. They have no work ethic or respect for their customers. The owner Vinod and Nitesh one of the managers treated us like we was dirt. I booked this place for my wedding and just a few weeks before my wedding, I was told that my venue was given to another wedding because they had more numbers.
I had a contract and paid my deposit months in advance this mean't nothing. There was no information on the contact stating that venues could be changed at any time. I was blackmailed to take the smaller venue and that would have never been my choice if that was the only venue.
Me and my husband to be was very upset and confused. Several times we tried to meet with the owner VINOD but he was never there. When I asked the reception for an email she told me he doesn't have a direct email. I found this very strange. After doing my research I found his email.
It came to the conclusion he supported his staff mismanagement and wasn't apologetic at all.
After visiting the venue again to find answers we was finally put on a phone to Vinod the owner and he was as bad as his staff. We was very upset with the outcome.
Later that day we got an email stating we showed aggressive behaviour and that they would no longer provide a venue and the service for our wedding. I was shocked because we was mistreated, discriminated against and lied to. I was so emotional and distressed we had to find a venue in two weeks.
We was lucky enough to find a new venue which was much better, cleaner and food was superb at Venue 5 in escote.
Although we had to change our venue dates and other arrangements but it was 100 times better than clay oven banquet. We was treated with respect and dignity at venue 5 thanks to Jim.
If your thinking of having your wedding here DONT it will just be a disaster. If your black african there is a whole level of disrespect coming from my...
