The restaurant is located in Ealing Road (Little India) where pricing competition is fierce and the local Asian community expect the best quality Indian food.
Desi Dhaba has managed not only to keep the local community happy but have surpassed all expectations. The decor, atmosphere, staff etc are all excellent but it is the food that really excels here.
Everything served has been excellent but the absolute stand out dishes are the chicken and lamb pot chefs specials. There are cheaper places serving oily, more generic food covered in chillis. However, if you want authentic, home style cooked food, eaten by people of Indian origin (look through the window to see the make up of the majority of the customers), then this is where you need to come.
The lamb pot is really the dish you need to try. It is a multilayered experience, where you can really taste the onions, peppercorn and, I think, star anise. The spice levels are perfect where you have the flavourful heat without it being overpowering. This is genuinely the best Indian dish I have ever tasted and if it was served in Central London at 3 times the price people would still be queuing around the corner for it like they do in Dishoom.
The chana masala was fed to elderly relatives who absolutely loved it, despite not usually being fans of take away food. We kept some naan and bhatura for the next day and it was still soft which is a rarity.
This is top class Central London/India food at prices which are actually too low for the quality of what is on offer. Again, with the best indian dish that I have ever tried. If you enjoy Indian food then consider this review, and others- it is an amazing place.
While waiting to pick up the delivery there is also a wall showing the efforts that the owners made helping the local community during the pandemic. It shows they assisted local hospitals, care homes, vulnerable people etc with recognition from the press and the mayor. I spoke to both Chinny and Mona and they are as nice as the press suggest. for example, they would not put the lamb chops on the menu that week as their local supplier that week had not delivered a meaty enough product.
Both are a credit to the community and the food at the restaurant (especially the lamp pot) is the best in the area in terms of quality. I would highly recommend a visit.
Genuine people will only allow serve genuine products and this is what we have here. A restaurant that has already made a significant impact within the...
Read moreAvoid, avoid, avoid! One of the worst Indian meals I think I have ever eaten. Have only added 1 star because I have had to to submit this. So salty, everything was inedible, can’t quite believe it. I only wish I hadn’t trusted the star rating and had read the last review of a month ago that said the same thing. This really ruined our Divali. Bathrooms were overflowing with used nappies and sanitary towels, health & safety would have shut it down straight away on that alone. Menus dirty and tables sticky, and service was some of the worst I have ever experienced. If you are happy for your entire meal to come for the next Divali then that’s how long you might have to wait for such simple things as popadoms and water let alone your meal! I spoke to many who left this place who did not enjoy it. So don’t believe the stars but read the reviews, and don’t patronise your customers by saying that it’s suppose to taste like that, salt is not spice! And as a london resident that lives and eats all over this city we know our Indian food well, cook it at home have friends and family that are from India and love spice. The waiter wouldn’t even try the paratha when I asked him to to see just how much salt the chef had used, inedible and fit for the bin am afraid. Such a sad start to our evening, but as we left we went straight to Southall and ended our dinner with an incredible desert at a much better...
Read moreI recently visited Desi Dhaba with my family and had an average experience overall. For starters we had ordered Samosa chat, Chinese Bhel and Paneer balls. The chat and Bhel was good but paneer balls were very dry and no chutney provided at all which even the staff admitted a the end something they should have given. For mains we had ordered Dal Makhni and methi paneer dish we asked for this to be spicy, however we were disappointed with both, the paneer was bland and Dal Makhni very tasteless. The naan bread was very hard, I'd a slightly overcooked. The portion size for some of the dishes were good value for the money.
The service was decent, though not outstanding. The staff were friendly but a bit slow in attending, we had to get their attention. The ambiance was cozy, with traditional decor that created a nice atmosphere for dining.
Prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of food, and the menu has plenty of options. I would recommend despite my average experience as I'm sure some of the other dishes would be worth trying and it was busy in there so it must be good if people are attending.
Parking could be a issue if you are vising on a Saturday due to restrictions. So check the signage before parking on side streets as the restrictions are up until 9pm. There was paid parking bays in front of the restaurant but these were full, there is only space for...
