Came in here for a pint knowing there is a huge beer garden on a stifling hot day. The first youâre greeted with is the bar so naturally you order a drink. The garden is pretty much completely empty too. Happy days? So youâd think.
Upon trying to go out to the beer garden a quite acerbic female blonde member of staff (probably thinks sheâs some sort of manager but not doing a good job of it) barked at us that we canât use the garden unless weâre part of the private function. No signs anywhere at the entrance or by the garden at all and the bar staff happy to sell you drinks in a stifling hot pub and not tell you outside is closed. To note, the function had half the inside booked out and supposedly the whole garden and barely had enough people to fill about 20 places! It was about 1900 in the evening and the function had mostly dispersed and we only stayed for a short time due to the issues.
There are literally several empty tables outside. The lady was so rude and unhelpful, coupled with bar staff who just want to take your money rather than be helpful and advise that outside is closed when it 32 degrees! The bar staff also seemed to lack motivation and any care for the customer and lacked in any sort of hospitality skills, without a thank you when serving you. They need to remember all drinks cost the same money to all people regardless of whether theyâre part of a booked party or not. Tables were filthy too and glasses not cleared away, despite some staff milling around doing nothing.
The pub is horribly uncomfortable too on a hot summerâs day inside, along with being dark and dingy. Avoid this place like the plague. Drinks were overpriced too - ÂŁ11 for a pint of Estrella and bottle of Coke - absolute daylight robbery especially for the area. The Coke bottle was sticky and off the shelf, not from the fridge. Thankfully the Six Bells down the road were kind, helpful and had outside space to offer with cheaper drinks as was the Rising Sun. Planning to follow up with Youngâs about the multiple issues here and wonât be back. Most of the reviews are insincere too as is common with Youngâs pubs and have vague detail and staff names - no one introduced themselves in person...
Read moreThis pub is just too expensive. The interior and exterior are fine and the drink selection is decent but everything costs more than it should. Some pints are well over £6.50 which is just too much for a local. The food is similarly over priced for what you get, you pay a premium price and get something pretty ordinary. I don't mind paying £16.50 for fish and chips (what they charged when I visited) if it's done well, but when you receive cafeteria food it feels like you have been ripped off.
There aren't many other options nearby, maybe that is why the prices are high, but my most recent visit was on a Friday night and the pub was wasn't close to busy, suggesting a lack of regular local customers.
There isn't really anything awful, it's just frustrating to pay a premium price and get mediocrity. At the prices this place charges you expect a chef to be cooking your food, but that clearly isn't happening. I think the pub compare their prices with the nearby Hilton Hotel and think that is normal for the area, the difference is the pub caters to locals and the hotel for wealthy visitors.
There are a few pubs in Brentford which are actual gastropubs and their food is cheaper and so much better. Equally, if you just want a normal pub you will find options by the river in old Isleworth, or on Brentford High Street, which are both cheaper and nicer. There is nothing about this place which makes it worth choosing over alternative options unless you are very local and...
Read moreUnfortunately the coach and horses are at the stage when they don't feel the need to try anymore. We went for Sunday lunch and were sat at a table in a glass room where temperatures were tropical. Many requests to turn on the air conditioning were finally accommodated, but this should have been considered before anyone was seated as temperatures outside were 27 degrees. Bring on the rude waitress who couldn't smile and who begrudgingly took the drinks orders whilst grimacing at one who couldn't make their mind up quickly enough for her liking. " I don't know what you actually want" she spat at him before going off in a huff. Bring on the food which ranged in price from 15 to 40 pounds per plate. Looked great! But it was style over substance because the meat was extremely dry. It has obviously been sitting under a hot lamp with no consideration about it drying . The Yorkshire was huge but had zero flavour. Gravy was sparse and had to beg for more. Potatoes were the best thing on the plate. What was disconcerting was the chef who wore an apron which had a massive hole in it, ripped and dirty clothing does not a good chef make... He walked in and out of kitchen constantly parading this shoddy uniform, no wonder the care has gone for the food if the employees are this uncaring about their work. This pub used to be a great place to eat and I have visited many times. Won't be coming back until you sort out your staff and make the food the star of the...
