We recently celebrated our wedding at Fatling and, unfortunately, it was not the experience we had hoped for. Having booked our table two months in advance and confirmed it through email and phone, we were excited to bring our guests to this pub after our ceremony.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with indifference. The two staff members at the desk didn't even acknowledge us. It took a full ten minutes before they finally asked "next please," despite us being the only ones waiting. When my husband mentioned our reservation, the girl at the desk insisted there was none. She called over a lady named Carly, who loudly and rudely proclaimed that we didn't have a reservation, causing quite an embarrassment in front of our guests.
After showing Carly our email conversation, she acknowledged the mistake but offered little in the way of an apology. Instead, she pointed to a couple of free tables inside, noting that the outside area was full. We reluctantly took one of these tables as it was too late to find another venue.
The service throughout the evening was poor. One staff member, in particular, seemed irritated every time we placed an order, despite us spending a significant amount of money. While our friends were gracious and we managed to have a good time despite these issues, the overall experience was disrespectful and disappointing.
I would not book this venue again and cannot recommend it to others. We expected better treatment, especially on such a...
Read moreWaited over an hour without receiving my food order (they weren't busy!). It seems my order was overlooked/misplaced or just forgotten! I didn't get an explanation....
They offered me my money back or my meal asap (whenever that would be!) Considering they wasted my time I would have expected to be offered my money back AND my meal.
Anyway, awful service and attitude especially from the manager dealing with my complaint. I would not recommend and would never go back!
Also the 'Doombar' was off so I chose another beer to go with my meal deal which they failed to tell me would cost me over £2 extra!
Had I realised they were in the same chain as the Suttons Arms (which is my usual pub 50 yards away) I wouldn't have even gone there! I would recommend the Suttons Arms all day long above this place.
UPDATE I can assure you that despite their response below they DID NOT OFFER ME A FULL REFUND AND MY MEAL FOR FREE. THIS IS TOTALLY INCORRECT. THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO SAVE FACE WITH THIS LIE AND THEREFORE CANNOT...
Read moreBig open garden area with plenty of seating. There is a huge difference between the pub during the day or the week and what it turns into on a friday and saturday night.
During the week the pub is a very nice and fairly traditional place to be they do good food and it has a very nice atmosphere.
On the weekend the pub undergoes a transformation. As with most places now, getting in for a drink is like trying to break into Fort knox. This has become even more difficult following some 'incidents' in the area. You need to show ID when going in although I'm not sure how this works if you're older. The bar can get extremely crowded on a Friday and saturday night and getting served at the bar can become more difficult. The live music on the weekends is nice and often very varied with Rock and Roll, Ska, metal and often some general 80s stuff. It can also be great for people watching and you get to see most of the Essex...
