Let’s start :
We booked this restaurant based on reviews, most of them good so we could not wait to try it, being ourselves fish and seafood lovers.
Service: good and welcoming. Wine: a massively overpriced list of wine. Some good some very average and expensive. You won’t find a decent bottle for less than 30 quid Oysters: amazing Starters: we had tuna and octopus - good but the portions are small. Barely tasters. Mains: we ordered two ray wings and a monkfish: Monkfish - very average, not seasoned properly. Slightly overcooked. Okay. Rays - we had to call the manager over and ask her to smell the fish as one of them stunk of ammonia - my husband had to literally spit it out as it was unbearable to eat. The amazing thing in all of this is that they advertise freshly daily delivered fish when we saw kitchen staff getting it out of freezer bags - that explained the ammonia as the fish was definitely not fresh. Ammonia is used to preserve fish when it’s not fresh any longer. The manager gave us the unforgettable excuse that ammonia occurs naturally in fish - this is not the case at all, and unlikely for this lady, I had 2 experience fishermen at my table, coming straight from the Mediterraneans which, to the sound of that, they had a laugh. The other wing was good in fairness and the manager tried to make it up to us nicely by giving us the 2 mains and the sides for free. We appreciated the gesture.
Overall- expensive and not great at all! Sorry.
The reality is that we will never stamp a foot thru the door of this restaurant ever again. This is the unfortunate reality of messing up with a very expensive menu that does not deliver its...
Read moreWe had the absolute pleasure of dining at the newly refurbished Fish Union this week, and I couldn’t believe the transformation! New life has been breathed into this local favourite which has undergone an incredible refurbishment that’s truly elevated the dining experience. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that every detail has been carefully thought out. The modern tonal decor creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels both luxurious and inviting with clever lighting that creates intimate table settings—perfect for a casual meal or a special night out. We sat at the newly created bar, the perfect vantage point to watch the comings and goings and enjoy one of the new cocktails on offer…. The food, of course, is the star of the show. The seafood is impeccably fresh and expertly prepared. The flexible menu offers inventive small plates or larger plates for the more traditional OR a mixture of both to share it’s all delicious. The flavours are vibrant, and the presentation is beautiful. And the long standing team are LOVELY! Hardworking, friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do - the restaurant was packed on the night that we visited and the service remained smooth and unruffled. Highly...
Read moreWe were walk-ins, although my boyfriend was dressed a little scruffy we were welcomed in. The new redesign is stunning and the smells from the kitchen were mouthwatering. We received very attentive service, the menu was short, concise and high quality. We had finger food which was high quality and delicious, for starters we had the octopus and beef carpaccio - both were the best examples of each dish we've ever had (my boyfriend is a chef) and the mains were absolutely spectacular - the Ray Wing was perfect and the chicken breast was juicy, tender and flavourful. The drink selection was comprehensive and high quality (the only reason we gave service 4 stars is because a glass of wine was forgotten). The co-owner was extremely friendly and knowledgeable - passionate too. And the price was EXTREMELY good value for the quality and type of food we were eating, I've never seen quality this high with prices this low - this is the best restaurant my boyfriend and I have visited during our relationship. Will definitely go again and wish for the success of this...
