TLTR: Picture the scene an increasingly angrier mob waiting for their overdue meals with half the canteen floor covered in water. Staff lying about order readiness and this all before the Saturday evening crowd started arriving.
My partner & I went for a Saturday afternoon cycle to Notting Hill. After marketing for awhile we decide to head back. Needing to power up for the ride home - but not having bike lights and the sun precariously close to starting it's descent, so rather than having a sit down meal we opted for 5 Guys.
I visit 5 Guys regularly all over London and know that it takes between 12 and 18 minutes at most for the particular meal we order to be prepared, so we should have had enough time to eat and make our way home before it gets dangerously dark.
We placed our order at 18:02.
At around 18:15 I joined the growing queue of grumbling people waiting for their orders at the "delivery" counter.
At 6:22 I asked the young lady taking orders if I had possibly missed mine. She checked and said it was almost done and should be ready in 3 minutes.
By 6:33, bear in mind we've been waiting half an hour for our "fast food". I was concerned about cycling home in the dark and decided to cancel and leave. The young lady at the counter said I should talk to the manager and called "Marco" over.
When "Marco" arrived he went on to tell me that my order had been called multiple times and was ready.
A bold faced lie I had been waiting less than a metre from the counter for over 15 minutes and my order was not called even hearing a couple of orders made after mine called multiple times.
I asked him his name and he told me it was "Daniel" I'm pretty sure that was another bold face lie as he was called Marco by the staff earlier.
Additionally the soft drinks dispenser had broken and what looked like water was gushing all over the floor.
Ridiculously long waits - I wasn't the only one who was irate at their wait time this place has one job deliver palatable...
Read moreA friend of mine from school used to work here and I'd heard very good things about the team they worked with. I've eaten here twice in the time they've been open and not had a problem. A few days ago, I ventured inside to ask one of the team politely if I may use the bathroom to wash my hands. One of my contact lenses had fallen out, I needed to put a new one in, but doing so with clean hands was important. The member of the team I spoke to grinned as if I'd made a joke and said the bathrooms were only for paying customers. I emphasised the fact I couldn't see properly so I really need to put a new contact lens in so I just needed to quickly wash my hands. This time, with an even wider grin, they said in a very condescending manner that I wasn't a paying customer so I can't. From my perspective, if not for washing my hands to put a contact lens in, we are still in a pandemic where the importance of hand washing cannot be understated. I easily could've walked into the bathroom without asking. Conversely, I may have decided to make a purchase on the way out had I been allowed to use the bathroom. Unfortunately, these possibilities didn't seem to enter the head of this member of staff so I won't be returning. I work in a cocktail bar / restaurant in an area with even higher footfall and neither where I work nor anywhere else nearby refuse people the right to use the bathroom. Especially not when there are no alternative facilities nearby. The excuse from the assistant manager who called me today was that allowing non-customers to use the bathroom in the past was impacting the profits of the business so they stopped allowing non-customers. It's a pathetic excuse. To the management, remember that every seemingly non-customer can just as easily become a customer. Unfortunately, you've lost one not only at this site but for the business in general. I hope the power trip...
