Where to start.... I'm a regular hungry horse eater as my reviews clearly show.... But this one will not get a revisit from me... I Don't want to contact managers, like some past reviewers have been asked to do.
This review is honest and quite self explanatory with photos to show as evidence.
I was initially served by a male members of staff who was quite polite and made time to answer questions regarding Hungry Horses latest voucher offers and the deals of the day however he was soon interrupted and overtaken by a lady I'm assuming was the senior member, who was trying to drive home to me the fact that the steaks were Already on offer in a very abrupt and unprofessional manner. (This is the prime reason I just ate, got up and walked out instead of bringing any of the matters up with her before left.)
The pub was not busy at all but I still waited around 40 mins for a simple steak.
I was told they at the bar that they only had 9 oz sirloins left (at 8pm on steak Monday) Around 35 minutes in... Food finally started coming out of the kitchen, However, They started serving the table behind me, which I believe ordered after me with the first meal delivered to them was a steak ( medium well with pepper sauce ) same as my order 😳
I managed to get the server on her 2nd run from the kitchen and ask about mine... At which point the table behind questioned missing peas and missing onion rings as the plates were sent out plain
She explained We've run out.. at 8pm running out of the basics and not even telling the customer just ignoring the missing items and serving the inaccurate meal is a very poor service.
I asked if they would put an alternative on mine in place of the missing veg and I was offered a piece of corn on the cob I thought this would take a while to cook but to my surprise it came out Within a couple of minutes. The corn was so over cooked it was soggy through to the middle, it was brown looking. (Photo) Must have been stewing for a long time. The sirloin was fatty with some hard gristle
The whole experience was disheartening when I took the time to drive 25 minutes across London from my hotel passing many eateries to go to my nearest Hungry Horse
add to that The knifes in the bucket had bits of food stuck on some of them (photo) and the steak although cooked was cold on the plate however the chips were hot.
No pleasantries from the staff during service not bothering to interact making sure the customers felt valued or making sure the food was ok.. just plonked it down and walked off.
The area I sat was very tired and un cared for and not at all up to the usual H.H standard.
A member of staff said they were changing to a sizzling grill venue soon maybe this is why standards are low.
Not pleased with the whole meal and Will be contacting green king to inform them of...
Read moreI'm not one to leave negative reviews but Oh My God this place was beyond abysmal. We came in at 1:40PM, didn't get starters until about 2:30PM and they also forgot one of our plates!! They didn't believe my Mum when she said we're missing a starter and came over to prove a point until they realised they messed up. Got the missing starter about 15 minutes later so by then we'd already eaten the other starters.
Then didn't get main until 3:15PM, which was very obviously frozen food and literally tossed on a plate (it was gross, and I'm being polite). Not sure what took so long if all they had to do was bung it in an oven. My partner was missing part of his meal but it honestly wasn't worth mentioning because all we kept getting told was "it's busy and we're understaffed". It wasn't busy, there was just no effort from anybody! We were being served one plate at a time, it was just ridiculous. If you don't have the capacity to be open on Christmas Day, DON'T DO IT!
After waiting half an hour for our plates to be cleared we decided to take them up to the bar ourselves, we thought maybe that would hurry them up... Of course that was wishful thinking.
Finally got our desserts at 4:10PM, and they were lovely - but unfortunately that didn't rectify the rest of our experience... I genuinely don't review anywhere but our experience was so awful it had to be done.
UPDATE/EDIT: I would also like to mention that their registration system for parking DOES NOT WORK. You will get a ticket, and you will receive absolutely no help in appealing it! We put in our reg on the tablet and still got charged £100. Bad staff, bad food, grotty pub and a crap car park! Just do yourself a favour and avoid the place...

Eventually got rather poor tea and coffee. Then waited in a dreary space. And waited... Noticed that other people were waiting ages for their food. Bar staff seemed to be mainly interested in doing some sort of strange ballet, lots of towel flicking and strange hip movements, but very little service. Seemed more interested in themselves than their customers. It wasn't great entertainment! After 40 minutes, asked at bar and told that they'd "lost the order". Got refund and left. Few days later got £100 parking fine (I'm not the only one caught like this - see Google reviews). Notices clearly say that it's a car park for patrons, but in MUCH smaller letters tell you to register at bar or be fined. See untouched photo. But they do have other large signs to tell you they accept no responsibility for anything happening to your car. . "Oh, the parking's nothing to do with us, it's the contractors!" Bar staff, of course, do not mention anything about parking when you order. I can't believe anyone would ever revisit the Fox Under the Hill. A perfect example of why pubs...
