Quite disappointed with the Hornchurch Giggling Squid. I can't state how often we come here, especially for lunch as we love the crispy Garlic Prawns and they are only on the lunch menu. Plus Yuna is a fantastic waitress.
Tried to deliveroo them today on our 1 year wedding anniversary as we had just driven back from Wales. They are not on the menu so we rang and despite us stating that we are literally going to be there to pick them up in 10mins, they refused to put the order through???
I then had to go in personally and made the order and made it clear I would be taking them away. Apparently Prawns can't be taken away? I can order a Pad Thai with Prawns with no problems and was offered other prawn options on the phone, so do not really appreciate this being given as an excuse. Given I was given the Prawns, the lady could have made the exception and took the order so I didn't have to faff for no reason. Very disappointed and will not be coming back anytime soon. Really put a bad tint on our lovely day over what is a simple matter of common sense. If it's a case of I need to see them before they are in the box? Then that could have been arranged. Instead I had to spend 20 minutes waiting for food, rather than just going to pick it up when it was ready.
We will have to go to another giggling squid restaurant in the future and if it is a head office issue then that silly policy should change. Lunch menu items should be able to be ordered during Lunch hours.... and whilst you are at it. Put the Garlic Prawns on the main menu full stop.
20 minutes total of my life I won't be getting back. I'd also like to add how completely dead it was in the restaurant. I was the only person in there, makes the unnecessary...
Read moreHad high hopes for this place after seeing many people dining here regularly.
It was fairly empty on arrival.
Firstly we waited for an absolute age to be asked if we wanted to order drinks!! Then we had another wait until we could order food.
When our starter eventually turned up it was nice and presented well, but when we booked I was told that the table was only ours for 90 minutes, and we were significantly into that time already. The time between finishing our starters and the plates being cleared away was like nothing I have ever experienced before!!! Our main courses were just poor 'Sticky chicken' was not sticky (no sauce) and was overdone (dry), basically as if microwaved, and covered in chilli flakes which were not mentioned anywhere on the menu. The 'Giant Butterflied King Prawn Pad Thai consisted of 3 of the smallest overcooked and rubberised "Giants" I have ever seen! Maybe this could be renamed, "Tofu Pad Thai" as there was an abundance of this, it was as if Tofu was the star of this dish.
If you've experienced Thai food before do not bother wasting your time here.
Overall not impressed and...
Read moreSome friends came here had a meal, and recommended the food. We ordered a Takeaway , Sunday evening. The food arrived pretty quick. One item was missing, and contacted deliveroo, they refunded the item. Once we dished the food up, everything was cold. I phoned the restaurant and spoke to Ryan who was friendly and explained the food is delivered in a plastic box which was pointed out is Microwaveable . Now not sure if we are the only family in Upminster that does not own a microwave so this was no help. Then mentioned the drivers sometimes take too long to deliver causing dishes to go cold. I have ordered takeaways before in the metal takeaway trays/boxes and nothing previously from other places has arrived cold. For the cost of this venue was expecting better things and service. Deliveroo refunded £2.57 for the cold food, and £3.50 for the missing item. Which is not great, I will be sticking to sukothai or New Fortune inn for future thai food. 100% will not be using again, or recommend unless you...
