I had been to the GI a couple of weeks previously to this visit on a Sunday afternoon with two friends. It was calm, quiet, the service was friendly and the food was good for the price. Based on that experience I decided to book a table for a family of 10 for a birthday celebration. As soon as we walked in the atmosphere of the place was loud and frantic. I had booked a table online in advance (which I had to call to actually sort and confirm) for food and drinks so I assumed we would be sat in a quieter part of the pub. We were sat on a table in a dark part, right in front of a huge screen where the football was playing. Not where we would have liked to have sat for a meal. The table was dirty and sticky and the menus were greasy and crummy, but we try to put this aside in the hope we will enjoy our food. We had four tables pushed together and each table had a different number. We were 4 households eating together and so naturally ordered separately in order to pay for our own meals. We were not made aware that this would mean our food would all come at completely different times. Myself, and the three others I'd ordered for all got our food about 25-30 minutes of ordering. We began to eat expecting the food for the 6 others in our group to arrive but the food did not turn up. After about 20 minutes we inquired as to where the rest of our parties food was. The young girl who we initially asked was apologetic but said that the food was going to be another 20 minutes because they were only working one grill. I'd like to note at this point we had seen what looked like the chef come out of the kitchen with no hat or apron, just a dirty tea towel slung over this shoulder standing around watching the football. We were very upset to hear the food was going to be yet another 20 minutes and inquired as to why this has happened as this was a booked table as a party of 10. At this point another waitress/bar staff came over and rudely and quite aggressively told us it was out fault as we had all given different tables numbers, as if we were supposed to know. It is poor organisation on the establishments behalf as they should be prepared for how orders for a group would be taken. Even then, we still may not have been quite as upset had we not been spoken to so rudely. We then asked for a manager, who in all fairness was very lovely and helped us sort out bills so we could leave. The four of us who had our food were unable to enjoy knowing everyone else didn't have there's and six people left an hour and a half later having eaten nothing. To add the steak ordered was supposed to be medium but was overcooked and tough. The experience ruined my Nans Birthday and what should have been a...
Read moreI have a long history with thus pub. My mum was a barmaid their back in the 1970's. Has had its ups and downs over the years. A recent revamp and some lovely looking food photos tempted me to book a table for lunch on Sunday. Upon arrival the bar was very busy and extremely noisy, with multiple screens showing football. We were shown to the dining area slightly away from the main area. No t.v screens but the sound of the football match was overpowering and made it difficult to talk without shouting. The food arrived and the starter arrived at the same time as the main meal. My sons mixed grill looked nothing like the photo and had items missing. These were quickly provided after speaking to staff clearing an adjacent table. The Gammon steak in the mixed grill looked almost raw. My son likes his steak mooing but not a good idea with Gammon. My wife's salad was served on a hot plate that made the lettuce wilt and turn sludgy. My Topped burger was fine but again looked very little like the photos in the menu. The overall experience was not great to be honest. The staff seemed inexperienced and we're having to be shown how to use the till for every transaction I and others made. To sum it up, this pub should be my local, but it seems to have been turned into a sports bar that serves poorly...
Read moreOMG where do I start. Walked in for a table of 2 and was directed to a table and was told that most of the menu was off due to the grill breaking down. This was not a problem as these things happen. Went for a chicken salad and Enchilada. Went to the bar only to be told no Enchiladas as they had run out of Nachos. Ok I said can I have some chips instead of Nachos. The reply was 'I can ask after I've put it though but I can't guarantee it' Now the Grill is broken, over half the menu isn't available, crisps have run out and I've have to order not knowing if I can get chips as a substitute? This wasn't acceptable and we decided to leave the food and drink the 2 drinks we had ordered and pay for the drinks. I actually work for Greene King and presented via an email a voucher. The lady entered the code and said it was the wrong code. It's a monthly code that had been used 4 times that month and only the day before. She was told this but never tried to enter it again. The drinks were already poured and we asked to leave without paying that was accepted. Awful experience. Will never go back there again. I do...
