Yes I agree the food is different to the usual greasy Indian curry houses you can get BUT there was not a single dish that was actually TASTY! Not a single one. I am a huge foodie- but I've never been somewhere where every single dish tasted as bad as the last. No salt, dishes that had 4 star heat rating on spice level were not even mildly spiced unless you count methi (fenugreek) and curry leaves as "spicy". aloo papri chaat was horrendous. Chaat is meant to taste sour/sweet/spicy. the yoghurt was horrible and there were dots of tamarind that did not taste of that sweet sour goodness at all! Biryanis, jalfrezis, Dhansak all had one strong ingredient running through which was over powering and can't figure out what type of Indian spice it was - maybe cumin or garam masala or something else. It was even in the chaat I mentioned earlier. Absolutely no salt in anything. No heat. Dhansak is meant to be fiery hot sour and sweet but was NONE of these things. Nothing tasted like the dish it was supposed to be. Bland! Only thing tasted good was the naan. Manager was nice and so were the staff. The stars are for them only. 4 star service, 0 star food. Couldn't bring ourselves to tell them how tasteless it all was because it wasn't bad meat or bad hygiene or anything, it was just food that didn't taste good. Can't express how disappointed and upset we were because it was so busy and looked great inside, cosy, nice ambience and we had such high hopes of yummy food. Thought we were going to get a great tasting fine dine meal to rave about. Plenty of food left over but nobody wanted to even ask for it to be packed because nobody wanted burden of finishing it! Tooting has much tastier food to offer - I'll take it even with the extra grease , at least I'll be guaranteed good flavour. Overall disappointed beyond belief- just didn't do anything for our taste buds, except make us feel sickly and I certainly wouldn't recommend . Based on other reviews I feel like- did we just get unlucky? Or maybe order the wrong items? What...
Read moreGreat place for a cosy dinner with friendly staff and tasty food. Expect to pay under £45 for 2 people.
Location : very easy to find as it sits on the main road. Parking is very limited but if you park in Sainsbury's opposite, you can park for free for 2 hours.
Restaurant: the place is very modern as you can tell from the outside with upscale signs and Indian decor. It's very tasteful but the tables are too small to contain 2 people food.
Staff: the waiters were amazing and friend and always filled our glasses. They were very attentive and polite and ones of the main reasons for coming here.
Food: we ordered, for starters - lamb samosas which were tasty but small and only came in pairs. The paneer tikka starter was big and came in 3s and were amazing and soft and not too spicy.
For mains - motta paneer, chicken Karahi, 3 naans. For desert - gulab and halwa. all of these were delicious and not too spicy. Had alot of flavour and was not too messy. A very tasty meals
Price: the total came to £45.50 for two people which is same as tgi Fridays and Frankie and Benny's. We had 30% off by booking through OpenTable so it came too £38.00.
Overall we had a great experience and would go again. The desert was tiny just like the tables but as long as you book through OpenTable it's a...
Read moreI recently dined at Indian Room in London, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. From the moment I walked in, the warm welcome and cozy atmosphere made me feel right at home. The restaurant has a charming ambiance, perfect for both casual meals and special occasions.
The menu offers a great variety of classic Indian dishes, and every bite was full of authentic flavors. I ordered the butter chicken, which was incredibly creamy and rich, with just the right level of spice. The lamb biryani was another highlight—aromatic, perfectly cooked, and packed with tender, flavorful lamb. The garlic naan was freshly made, soft, and the ideal accompaniment to the meal.
Service was excellent—the staff was friendly, attentive, and happy to make recommendations based on preferences. They made sure everything was perfect throughout the evening.
To end the meal, I tried the gulab jamun, which was warm, syrupy, and the perfect sweet treat. Paired with a refreshing mango lassi, it was the perfect way to round off the meal.
Overall, Indian Room delivers outstanding Indian cuisine with top-notch service in a lovely setting. Highly recommended for anyone craving delicious and authentic Indian...
