I have been going to this place for over 20 years (they use to be big restaurants back then. Groceries used to be called Istanbul too. However, lately, it seems a bit of a miss with no Donner (size of donner is way small, hence by 7 its near ends) at 7ish. There waiters are ok, service is little odd in comparison to back in the days but not really a point IE they are ok.
Had few people came over the other day, so decided to get 2 special platters (made sure I was there by 6.30ish). When I got back home and opened up the platter, I saw that they had reduced the quantity of donner (well, their Donner is small so perhaps they give little portions so that they can give others but that means customers get less for their money, I suppose they don't see a future hence perhaps make what they can while they can) and other stuff. A little sad but good thing, there is Ottoman Donner (10 mins drive and you can get best Donner from barking road or Ilford) and other food places in this area.
I used to recommend and go in to eat at this place, just have to others or take a drive to...
Read moreThis place was awful, firstly the food took 20 minutes to be served. when we finally got the food, the plates weren't cleaned properly. The lamb that they gave, you could tell it was cheap, it was just all fat and wasn't cooked properly. In the salad that the provide, there wasn't even tomatoes, only lettuce. At didn't even finish the food, and at the end when we went to pay, they charged us extra. I asked why and they told me its for sitting in the restaurant. Which they did not mention at any time, they were rude and unpleasant, said we ordered from a take away menu which was largely displayed on the board, and they said its different prices to what the menu when you sit it. But that still did not show anywhere that you must pay extra for eating it.
They started to ask what other restaurant didn't charge, I named plenty, and at the end they lied and said they didn't charge extra, although they did. They are the worse place you could ever go too. the staff are...
Read moreWas there for iftar, very slow service and the food was half warm, sauces were watered down, especially the chilli sauce. The salad looked lifeless. Decore was outdated to the point were hanged painting looked like the damp was coming out of it. Considering it was a halal restaurant they offered no Dates or water for the us to break the fast out of courtesy. We literally went next door to the Turkish grocery store to buy dates. As mentioned the actual food was OK, not great but wasn't terrible for one time. If the owner is reading this I would serious consider renovating and then hiring some young staff to show some excitement in welcoming potential customers aswell getting a new chef who can maintain freshness and quality (unless your the chef and owner). Your in a prime location but looks like the furniture and wall's have not been maintained for years. Sorry for a long review but I do see potential if the the manager is...
