We came here for my cousin's birthday and were so disappointed with this pub. The service was abysmal, it took 45 minutes after ordering to get our drinks, the waiters never came over to our 14 person table unless we flagged them down (which I'd understand on a busy Sunday, however the tables around us were full of food and drinks, and the waiters were often standing around/talking amongst themselves despite us having nothing). The food we were served was, quite frankly, inedible. I ordered the roast beef dinner, and the beef was incredibly dry despite the fact that it was drowning in gravy. Additionally, I was given 1.5 anemic roast potatoes; I'll give credit where it's due, the waiters immediately fetched a bowl of roasties free of charge once we pointed out how little we were actually given in ratio to the size of our plates. The birthday boy ordered an ultimate burger, and opted out of the burger sauce for BBQ sauce instead... Shouldn't have bothered. The burger was dry and crumbling, had absolutely no seasoning and tasted old and reheated, the veg inside was wilted and brown, and the cheese hadn't even been melted. In lieu of giving him the requested BBQ sauce, they put no sauce whatsoever, so we had to flag yet another waiter down (ours kept disappearing), to ask for sauce in a pot, and received it 15 minutes later. Overall, this was a horrendous experience, and I feel so bad for my cousin as I know he just wanted to have a nice family meal for his birthday. If you are curious about going here, do yourself a favour and drive an extra 5 minutes to the Toby Carvery Whitewebbs pub, at least they have some level of consistency with...
Read moreRude and unfriendly service. Lied about reservations rather than be flexible or helpful.
I went to the Plough on a Tuesday lunch. Have been a few times post-garden centres and it’s always been fine to good.
This time I went with my young baby in a pram and my sister. The young member of staff seemed unsure how to handle us having a pram and suggested a dark corner - not the light conservatory that had plenty of space.
I suggested some other options. All perfectly feasible. The response was awkward and hesitant but in the end we agreed we could leave the pram in the dark corner and sit in the light conservatory.
Ok great. Then I asked to sit at a table for 4. Pretty standard for 2 adults and a high chair. Oh no we have to be at a crammed 2 person table. This despite there being plenty of tables (30/40%) and it being 13.30 - so not likely a big rush was coming for lunch.
I insisted so the young staff member said she’d ask someone.
A barman or manager then came across to tell me the specific one table amongst the dozens available… was booked 🤣🤣
I told them they were taking the piss and left.
Update: I did absolutely not swear. I said ‘you guys are taking the piss, I’m off’. The only other table offered was a small 2 person table. There is zero chance there was a reservation. Funny that the colleague who i spent most of the time chatting with made no mention of a reservation. You lied rather than help someone with a buggy, and now lying again on reviews....
