I have an intolerance to gluten and have been unable to eat out at a Chinese restaurant for years. I heard about Red Bamboo Restaurant and that they serve Gluten free food and decided to pay them a visit. They have a separate Gluten Free menu which has a lot of dishes on it which was a pleasant surprise. My partner and I ordered the gluten free sharing platter and the salt 'n' pepper squid to start. The food arrived to our table in less than 10 minutes and this got my Spidey senses tingling. My senses were right food cooked and served that quickly isn't going to be good. The deep fried crispy prawns were greasy, soggy and not crispy at all... This means that the oil that they fried them in wasn't hot enough. The prawn toast was just hard, I almost broke a tooth trying to bite into it. The menu stated that one of the items on the platter was supposed to be deep fried aubergine but when I bit into it I was surprised to find out that it was actually chicken. I asked the waitress why I got chicken instead of aubergine and I was told that they had changed the menu but hadn't printed new menus yet. I was then told that they are having problems sourcing aubergine so they decided to change it to chicken....Vegetarians would have loved that explanation. Also no dipping sauce was offered to us. Some Soya Sauce and Sweet chilli sauce would have been nice don't you think? The salt 'n' pepper squid wasn't too bad but it lacked flavour. Our main courses were Crispy chilli beef, chicken with Thai basil and chilli and a side order of beansprouts and mushrooms, and some coconut rice. The crispy chilli beef didn't seem to have much actual beef in it...it just tasted like crispy batter to me. The sauce that it was served in was obviously sweet chilli sauce that came straight out of a bottle. Very poor if you ask me. The chicken with Thai basil and chilli was possibly one of the worst things I have ever tasted in my life. This is a dish that I make myself at home and when I do it's popping with flavours. What I got served at Red Bamboo was bland and literally tasted of nothing. I complained about this and they re-cooked the dish... it wasn't much better the 2nd time around! The beansprouts and mushrooms were also bland and lacked seasoning like everything else I ordered that day. The best thing I had was the coconut rice. I'm a chef and my honest opinion of Red Bamboo's food is that it's terrible. Whoever is cooking it has no idea about layering flavours and seasoning. I won't...

Came he for the first time after a recommendation from my uncle, it's a new type of dinning experience for me.
There are two types of evening menu the Al la cart (a normal dinner menu charged per dish) or a sit in three course selection menu of which you can ask for as much as you like.
The idea here is that you choose a few starters (depending on number at the table) and if you finish them and want more you can ask for more or a different starter. The same applies to the middle soup or duck course and then same applies to mains (see my images for dishes and courses).
Needless to say I would be surprised if you need to ask for more for any of the courses!
The dishes are you classic British Chinese style dishes and a few others. All the dishes we ordered were great! Some dishes that I expected not to like (not a fan of squid) were also actually very tasty!
The only issue with food is that I had the rare/occasional dry but of chicken in the sweet and sour chicken ball starter, but every single/all other dishes were top notch! Fresh tasty and super tender meat! I also recommend the crispy lamb!
The service was excellent, very attentive and friendly waitresses willing to go the extra mile to ensure you are having a good meal.
There is only on street parking and there may be parking restrictions (check street views for parking signs) there is also a car park at Waitrose but may be for customers only.

Read moreIt is ashame because all the reviews and photos looked good online, thought it would be good to give it a try as I don't have many local Chinese restaurants near me. I'm sorry to say this but I have never ate such bland noodles in my life.....chicken was literally like jelly I told the waiter and she said she will speak to the chef. Didn't hear nothing back from her she asked if we're finished and took away the plates . At this point I was waiting for someone to come back and offer a possible replacement to what I ordered...nothing. I asked for the bill after sitting for another 10mins which felt like she had just ignored me so I asked someone else for the bill. And unfortunately they tried to charge me £7.80 for a dish I did not touch....at this point I was not happy and just wanted to leave. I told her i do not want to pay for something I didn't touch.she decided to remove it from the bill but felt to inform me if I wish to return NOT to order her chicken as that is how the 'chicken' is served. Lastly to top it off on the way out I over heard a family saying their food wasn't really nice either.
Give it a try at your own expense but I wouldn't...
