The older blonde hair lady and the man with the glasses who purport to be the owners are disgraceful and borderline racist. We entered with our friends and rather than being welcomed were told the policy of ordering a dish per person. This is fine but the way the lady directed us was rude and disrespectful. We ordered immediately. My wife, who has a condition due to an irregularity had a bite of crisps she was carrying after ordering due to her low blood sugar levels. The blonde lady came over and started shouting at us that it was rude to eat outside food in a restaurant. We tried to explain to no avail. Instead the lady tried to suggest that we were rude and would not have a conversation like a sensible human being. When I asked if I could speak to the manager, she said she was the owner and wanted us to leave. My wife was so upset and insisted to speak to someone in charge as she could not believe this lady was so inept at understanding basic diabetes needs. The blonde lady and her colleague (a man with glasses) then proceeded to trying to manhandle my wife and get her to leave. I had to ask them to politely stop from physically harming my wife otherwise I would call the police. We were in complete shock after leaving as we have lived in the area since 1994. It was our first time going to Rosso and will certainly be our last. Whether racism or otherwise we don't understand the disgusting behaviour by the alleged "owners". AVOID if you aren't white and a local friend of the Essex owner. Disgusting and...
Read moreWe have been going to Rossos for several years and loved it, but the service at our most recent visit was terrible. We booked in advance and on arrival found a note on the table politely informing us the table was booked for an hour and a half’s time. This used to be the setting of a night out well spent, an evening chatting with friends, eating and drinking until the later hours. Neither the male owner nor the waitress could bring a smile to their faces on any of their customer’s arrival.
The female owner said my friend’s vegetarian needs couldn’t been accommodated easily. Aware of the time, my friend and I only ordered a main course and the waitress was keen to take away our plates before we had even finished. Our drinks weren’t topped up at all through the meal. We weren’t given anytime to read the dessert menu as we were on a 15 minute countdown to the table being rebooked. Opting for a coffee instead, we had a bill slapped on the table, before it even arrived!
The couple next to me had exactly the same service and complaints and they still had half a bottle of wine to finish. Niether table was told about a second sitting on booking.
Food here is lovely but the service is poor and there is no respect for their customers. 90 minutes is not long enough for a three course meal and drinks. If you’re not prepared to offer that in a restaurant, then set up as a cafe, but don’t charge your customers for an experience they...
Read moreI visited Rossos on a Saturday eve, it was very busy and I was looking forward to a good meal as I’d always liked Rossos. Unfortunately our experience was not great at all. I’d pre booked our table but was not warned that we only had 1.5 hours in there (as they now do two sittings). From the moment we sat down at the table , to the moment we left, we felt very rushed. The owners wife reminded us several times of our time limit. Whilst handing us the menus, she stood over us while we were trying to make our choice. The other thing that wasn’t great is it says on the menu that they will cater for dietary requirements. I asked for an ingredient (mushrooms) to be removed from a risotto and replaced by tomatoes. I explained that due to health issues I could not digest mushrooms. The owner’s wife made a ridiculous excuse as to why they could not cater for this, that the tomatoes would “pop” while cooking them. We set out to have a two course meal but because of our time limit, we only had time for one course, and a hot drink which we had to drink so quickly because when we were served it, we were reminded that we had 5 minutes to drink it because the next sitting were already there and waiting.. After our visit, I politely emailed the restaurant with my concerns. Of course my email was ignored. I definitely will not be going back ! If you want a relaxing evening where you don’t have to worry about timings, do not choose...
