Stay Restaurant What a great way to spend an afternoon by enjoying a fantastic sunday lunch at a local restaurant and that’s exactly what happened this weekend. We decided to pay a first visit to Stay in Emerson Park which has only been open for about four months and left feeling very happy indeed and looking forward to returning again soon. We took the short ten minute walk from home to arrive at Stay. When we entered we received a lovely welcome before being escorted to our table. Once seated we took a quick look around. The restaurant has been modernised with a bar to your right as you enter and the dining tables are nicely spaced out allowing plenty of room for tables consisting of small or larger groups. Once seated we started with a drink while we looked at the menu which had a good selection of starters , roasts , sides and desserts. There are also a few alternatives if you don’t fancy a roast. Starters - We started with the Steak Tartare with radicchio , st ewes egg yolk and beef dripping crumb that was just bursting with flavour and easily one of the best tartare’s I’ve had in a while. Our other course was the Beer Battered Peterhead Cod Cheeks and tartare sauce where the batter was light and crispy and the fish was cooked perfectly. Mains - What was to follow was absolute heaven in the form of the 32 day dry aged Beef Sirloin with an incredible Ox Cheek Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding that was to die for. Along with the roast came all the trimmings ie. roast potatoes , carrots , cabbage , broccoli , horseradish , gravy and an extra side order of cauliflower cheese. The food was cooked to perfection and was simply devine. Desserts - After a much needed rest it was time for desserts and what a way to finish. My wife enjoyed a delightful Treacle and Stem Ginger Tart with clotted cream. I was in heaven as I was enjoying the delicious Old Monk Rum Bread and Butter Pudding with vanilla custard. We ended with a coffee and a complimentary digestive courtesy of head chef Scott who also came over to say hello so we could personally thank him for an amazing lunch. It was also nice to have a chat with manager Helen who is guiding the young and friendly team in the right direction. The food was excellent , the staff were friendly and welcoming so yes I would highly recommend a visit to Stay. This restaurant is a great addition to not only the local area but the whole Essex dining scene. We’re definitely looking forward to returning as soon as possible to try the a la carte menu. Average Price - 3 courses £45 which I considered very good value for money. Thank You Scott , Helen and all the team for a fabulous afternoon and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Today we payed our first visit to to Scott’s Bar and Brasserie formerly known until recently as Stay. It is now owned by head chef Scott Pinson whose aim is to turn it into a great place for locals to meet friends and enjoy amazing food and service. Well of today was anything to go by that shouldn’t take long. Scott has a good reputation for producing excellent food and that continued today. We were given a lovely welcome by wife Helen before taking our seats. We looked at the the Sunday menu which consisted of Snacks and Nibbles , Starters , Mains , Sunday Roasts and Desserts. We started with the Grilled Flatbread , confit garlic and cantabrian anchovies that was absolutely delicious. Starters - We chose the Sauté Mediterranean Prawns and the Char Sui Tamworth Pork Collar Mains - My wife chose the Pork Belly sunday roast and I chose the amazing Smoked Ox Cheek Ragu with Pappardelle. Dessert - I opted for the Vanilla Creme Brûlée with strawberry and shortbread that delightfully brought to an end a fabulous afternoon. I would highly recommend a visit as the food was fabulous and the service was friendly. The brasserie is open for Breakfast , Lunch and Dinner so do pop in and give your support to another great local restaurant. Thank You Scott and Helen keep up the good work and see you again soon.

First time at Stay tonight. Welcome was warm and relaxed, decor was smart and comfortable. Food was delicious. Started with steak tartare, a first for me and I have to say it was so good. Next was half a free range chicken, triple cooked chips and peppercorn and marrow bone sauce. The chicken was soft, tender and full of grilled flavour and well seasoned. The sauce, just give me a spoon and a bowl full and I would be happy. I thought we had peaked at the main course but no. For dessert I was told the bread and butter pudding was off the menu. I must have looked disappointed as the lovely hostess asked the question. Yes one more portion. Bread and butter pudding with rum, oh my word it was amazing.!! Soft and fruity but the rum just added a delicious hit of flavour. I literally scraped the bowl clean. Is it the cheapest restaurant, no. Is it worth paying the extra couple of quid, definitely yes. This is one restaurant we should be supporting. It's run by local people, not a chain, and deserves to be full every night. Well done everyone.

Avoid at All Costs – Horrific Service

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The service was absolutely appalling from start to finish. • We waited 1.5 hours and had only received our starters, only to be told that another table had been mistakenly prioritized over us. A young waiter admitted the mistake, but that didn’t make up for the ridiculous wait time. • When our mains finally arrived, four had to be sent back due to multiple errors: one had the wrong sauce, another was the wrong steak, one was missing chips, and the fish dish contained so many bones that it caused bleeding in the mouth. On top of that, one meal was served with still-frozen chips—completely unacceptable. • Shockingly, the young waiter showed more professionalism than the manager, who was sitting behind me, eating his own food instead of dealing with the issues. When we finally spoke to him, he had a rude, dismissive attitude, all while continuing to eat.

We weren’t the only ones complaining that night, and I can guarantee we won’t be the last. Save your time, money, and...
