A Taste of Home at Senator
After three years of immigration from Iran, I was delighted to find a place that brings me closer to home. Senator offers a cozy atmosphere with Persian-style decorations, making it a comforting spot to unwind and enjoy authentic Persian cuisine.
On my first visit, I ordered Kale Pache, one of the special Persian dishes cherished by many. They served it in traditional copper-coated plates and bowls, reminiscent of those used in Persian heritage ceremonies. The dish was delicious, though slightly different from the original Kale Pache in Iran, where it’s slow-cooked overnight with unique spices. Still, the flavors were rich and satisfying, and the overall experience brought back fond memories. I also enjoyed a pot of Persian tea afterward, which was the perfect way to end the meal.
Encouraged by that experience, I popped in again the following week to try another dish—Tahdig Gheyme. A full plate of crispy Persian tahdig topped with gheyme stew arrived at my table, and it was absolutely divine. The lamb was tender, the stew perfectly seasoned, and the crispy potato chips on the side were incredibly satisfying. Adding a piece of smoked aubergine to the plate was a thoughtful touch, making the dish even more special.
Although I initially planned to follow the tahdig with koobideh stew as my main course, I found myself too full to continue. The portions were generous, and the flavors left me completely content.
One of the highlights of Senator is the lively atmosphere. I noticed plenty of backgammon tables for those who enjoy a game while dining. Although I was alone and didn’t get a chance to play, it added a warm and welcoming vibe to the venue.
The staff were kind and welcoming on both occasions, and the pricing was fair and competitive. I’m thrilled to have found a place that captures the essence of Persian cuisine while creating a lovely space to relax.
Next time, I’m excited to try their Tahdig-Ghormeh, which I’ve heard is another standout dish. Thanks, Senator, for bringing a slice of...

The menu is a curated selection of Persian culinary treasures, featuring a range of dishes that highlight the complexities and nuances of the cuisine. The saffron-infused rice is aromatic and fluffy, the perfect complement to the succulent skewers of koobideh and delicately spiced stews like Ghormeh Sabzi. The use of herbs and spices is masterful, balancing flavors without overpowering the senses.
The dessert offerings are equally impressive. Do not miss the chance to try their Faloodeh, a traditional Iranian frozen dessert that strikes the perfect balance between sweetness and tartness, or their saffron-infused pistachio ice cream, which is simply divine.
Overall, this restaurant provides not just a meal but an unforgettable journey through Persian cuisine. It receives a well-deserved 5 stars and comes highly recommended for anyone seeking an authentic, high-quality...
Read moreTraditional Iranian food is served here. Very good portions and after all everything is eaten you don't feel stuffed but pleasantly full. The food is light so to speak. Fresh meat produce and salad, well cooked lamb and the typical Iranian style bread / naan you get is made within your view depending where you sit as they have a (again) traditional oven otherwise known as a tandoor. There were two of us who both each had a starter a main each and a beer. 1 x soup 1 x mashed aubergine
Main Lamb pieces with rice, salad and a large spicy pepper.
Two budweiser beers (bottled).
Service was good, pleasant and attentive. It wasn't busy as it was a week day in the middle of the day however we were not hanging around, treated well and left satisfied.
The decor is clean, presentable, also cosy and spacious.
There is a sheltered outer seating area which is in front of the restaurant, all is closed off with walls and door. It is suitable for sheesha smokers.
My friend is Iranian born and so knows his food, so this is a partial recommendation from him too as it was his idea to go here. It was his second time. His first was with a party of more than 7 people whom were also all satisfied on that occasion.
See for yourself... Enjoy!!!
