š Nunhead šŗĀ Ā£5.20 Guinness
Skehanās is located in a residential area in Nunhead Southeast London. The nearest station is Nunhead mainline.
This pub started life as The Duke of Albany, built in 1895. Skehanās is an Irish pub which came to be just under 10 years ago and today is one of the most celebrated pubs in London.
This Victorian corner pub is very easy on the eye with lots of foliage, hanging baskets and detailed stonework.
This is a traditionally decorated, high ceilinged, one bar pub that is set out in an L-shape. The servery has a solid wood counter and is surrounded by green velour topped stools. To the right of the servery is an ornate fireplace flanked by shelves covered in bric-a-brac. The seating is conventional with a couple of banquettes around the perimeter. Everywhere you look around this pub there is always something of interest. Some of the most notable features are on the ceiling where youāll find beautiful cornicing and unique fans. Towards the back of the bar is a pool table, behind is a door which leads to a tiered beer garden.
The beer selection will please the masses and offers a choice of well known brews, three cask ales and of course Guinness. As this is an Irish boozer, my choice was simple and I ordered a stout. My pint was thoroughly enjoyable and cost just north of a fiver. The food menu is Thai and is served in the restaurant, Roasts take centre stage on a Sunday.
We arrived just after 12pm on a sunny Saturday lunchtime in July. We received a warm welcome by the team member on duty who was friendly and courteous. We decided to sit at the bar and got chatting to a local chap who was friendly also. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed with a homely local pub feel. This pub attracts a broad range of punters from local students to longtime regulars and hosts live music 6 days a week, including Traditional Irish Music.
Visiting @skehansfreehouse was an authentic Irish Pub experience, the hype is real, we loved it. This independent, family-run pub is all you would want your local pub to be. Weāre so glad we visited and will definitely make a pilgrimage again soon.

First we were over charged for everything, everything was a few more pounds that on the menu and I was made paid in cash and never got a receipt. When asking eventually, to a bar staff, if the prices had changed we were told no, we check the website and again no, so the only thing to think is that she was the one overcharging us. And rarely when my girlfriend when to buy rice, after me telling her about the overcharged, by magic it was the right price, yes because she was ready to argue. And this evening I went for my Tom yum & pad Thai which I love. I could barely walk as my leg is immobilise (obviously limping) and she, she same girl, made me go up and down to take my order. Went to the restaurant and asked if I could order from upstairs, yes, once upstairs I saw her and asked her to take my order, no, you need to go to the restaurant, I came down again with a lot of effort, to only wait for her and been ask for my table number which I didnāt remember and she made no no effort at all to help me with that: without table number I canāt take your order. At this point I just got enough and walk away because I couldnāt stand it anymore. I work in hospitality as a bartender and waiter. This situation was unacceptable! Iām super extremely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSuch an unwelcoming and unpleasant pub. Firstly the Ā£10 card minimum in this day and age is baffling and a shock on arrival. Additionally the woman with blonde hair styled in a bun angrily approached my group because my friend who was a musician for the open mic had her liptons ice tea out on the table. She then said that none of us had drinks and that we were taking up space when me and my partner had two pints but finished them before she came over and my other two friends had bought drinks for themselves. This doesnāt particularly read well as we were the only diverse group of people in the pub and we werenāt the only group that didnāt have everyone drinking. If it wasnāt for the organiser of the open mic Iām sure we wouldāve been kicked out by the miserable woman. Maybe the Ā£10 card minimum should be reconsidered because thatās why our group were not considering buying drinks and after being shouted at we didnāt want to give our patronage any longer. It was such a downer on the start of our night that we decided to leave earlier than we were...
