Trendy new coffee shop graces Nunhead's high street, featuring elegant minimalist design, friendly staff and excellent coffee. They grind and brew East London roasted Allpress Espresso, a deliciously smooth and not-too-dark blend that I'm very partial to. There's coffee for every taste; espresso drinks, drip filter and pour over plus tea and hot chocolate. If you have the time to wait, I recommend the pour over for a wonderfully smooth cup. The food menu boasts simple but delicious fare, including breakfast favourites like boiled eggs and soldiers or avocado toast, as well as light lunch salads. There's a selection of pastries available too. I very much enjoyed the Nordic smoked salmon toast, though the horseradish cream could have used a little more punch (just my personal preference though!). The staff are friendly and accommodating, my only criticism was that I didn't get to meet the cafƩ dog Huxley the beagle! Which reminds me, this cafƩ is dog friendly, so perfect for after walkies in nearby Peckham Rye Park or Nunhead cemetery.
N.B. the cafƩ currently has a step at the entrance so isn't wheelchair accessible, but the manager is currently working on getting a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA neighborhood cafe with a simple menu. Ordered American pancakes with maple syrup and a sourdough grilled sandwich with goats cheese, honey and toasted walnuts, which took over 20 minutes to arrive. I understand itās a small operation but it wasnāt busy and these dishes are simple to put together.
Sandwich tasted nice but its presentation could definitely be improved. I was also expecting a proper slice of sourdough, not just white toast.
Average pancakes. While I imagine itās expected for people to add toppings/sides which would make the plate look fuller and more exciting, this plain version with just maple syrup is on the menu and in bold, and unfortunately they looked a bit sad. American pancakes are meant to be fluffy, not thin.
Coffee was delicious. Service was pleasant. I think itās mainly the presentation that needs to be worked on and this place would...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhile exploring Nunhead for my blog article, I stumbled upon Goodcup Coffee, which I found rather charming.
I visited with my partner and puppy to try the pesto eggs. These consisted of two well-done fried Cracklebean eggs topped with pesto, heritage tomatoes, and garlic-steamed seasonal greens.
My partner opted for the huevos rancheros, a visually appealing dish featuring two fried eggs on warm tortillas accompanied by smashed black beans, a tangy tomato and onion salsa, crumbled feta, jalapeƱos, and a hint of chilli sauce.
During past visits, I had also tried their bagels and avocado on toast, both of which were excellent.
The cosy interior and view overlooking Nunhead Green added to the charm of the place. And let's not forget the coffee ā it's truly exceptional. And they are...
