I was sceptical when i heard this place was having a name change and refurb. I used to drink in it when it was Prince of Wales, it was down to earth and affordable (if a little rough!), so whilst i was pleased it was reopening, i thought the refurb would turn it into a bland, expensive gastro pub.
Well, thats not the case and they have done a good job. Theyve kept the horseshoe bar, given the place a needed but sympathetic refurb, kept drinks prices reasonable, and added a small menu. The staff are really nice and the patrons friendlier and are not going to kick your head in because they think youre a copper. They even kept the sports subscription which i am pleasantly surprised at. For what is a small pub they have managed to create a place which offers lots of things for different people. Read moreThis pub has been refurbished to a high standard but also with families in mind. It’s fantastic to see someone think through what parents actually need! There’s a little play room, plastic plates, kids cutlery, bottles with lids and traffic light choice of pastas sauce. This all makes for a lovely family meal.
