🚇Forest Hill 🍺 £6.75 Stiegl
The first ever MEATliquor Pub.
The Dartmouth Arms is located on Dartmouth Road in the heart of Forest Hill. The nearest station is Forest Hill which is a couple of minutes walk away.
This pub was built in 1848, in recent years the pub operated as a Gastro with mixed reviews. In July 2021 The Dartmouth Arms was taken over and rebranded as MEATLiquor’s first pub.
This is a decent size pub that has had the unique MEATLiquor makeover. There are three separate sections, the Stag Room is at the front, in the middle is a bar area where the taps are located, at the rear is a comfortable back room which has a open servery to the kitchen. The decor is distinctly MEATliquor with back painted walls and ceilings, red neon signs, a bit of greenery plus obscure artworks. To the left of the pub is a partially covered decked beer garden for the warmer months.
The beer line was Craft oriented with options from London brewers, continental choices plus one cask ale. I decided on a Stiegl, my pint was good, price point was above average. Now on to the food, my Brother and I decided to go for Cheeseburgers with Chili Cheese Fries and some fried pickles. The food was amazing, the burgers were juicy, the fries packed a punch, I think we over did it with pickles.
This was our final stop on our crawl around Forest Hill. We arrived about 5pm, the pub was fairly busy with a good mix of punters dotted around the three rooms. The atmosphere was relaxed and set to an excellent soundtrack of 60’s 70’s and 80’s soul. The service was on point, the Lady who served us was courteous and efficient.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our visit here, both my Brother and I love a visit to the pub and a good burger, both of which we could enjoy here. You’re not going to get a traditional pub experience here but that was ok by us, we were here for the burgers. On another note, this pub was saved from potential redevelopment and thankfully it is still pulling pints. Whether it’s gentrification or the natural progression, either way if you love Burgers and Beer, you’ll love it here.

Read moreI went for lunch with a friend just after Xmas to get away from the house. We sat on the left side of the bar which was absolutely freezing! After about 10 minutes we had to move to the right side were the heating could actually be felt .The atmosphere was very unwelcoming as well as the offering and low lighting . After we made our lunch order, we were then told they had ran out of Chicken burgers and bacon for the cheese burgers. This meant half of the menu was unavailable and we would have to change both our orders. Had it not been pouring with rain and the cost of parking ,we would have just left. However, we were famished and didn't want to then have to look for another spot to eat . Reluctantly I ordered the 1924 burger and my friend ordered the Cheese burger. We also ordered a portion of wings to share. In hindsight this was a mistake, as when they came we received 4 wings for over £10 lol! This portion of BBQ wings literally cost the same price as the lunch special of a burger and a side. The wings were also cold and lacked any flavour .The burgers were fine ,but we were both left with a bad taste in our mouths when the bill came.Considering there's a cost of living crisis and hospitality businesses are failing they need to rethink some of their product pricing. I mean 4 measly wings for for over £10 is just ridiculous. I wouldn't go back or recommend this place . It would better if they restored it back to being a local boozer and save the people of Forest hill a...
Read moreIm afraid this is a complaint. On Tuesday i visited the DA to get the 12pm-4pm Lunch Deal. I arrived at 3.50pm and was told if i ordered right away id get the lunch deal, burger and fries for £12.45. I ordered a burger and fries from the lunch deal menu with a pint, finished it then paid for it at 4.45pm. Took the receipt but after i left i saw how much i was charged, £26.16. Burger was £12.95, fries was £5.00, 1 Pint was £6.00 and it said lunch deal reduction of £1.58. An optional 12.5% service charge was also added and a £1 charity donation. So the complaint is that a customer should be made aware of when the lunch deal ends, is it when they place the order or when they pay for it? I don't understand why the receipt said lunch deal deduction of £1.58, 45mins after the lunch deal ended. Surely its either £12.45 or the normal price. Also the optional service charge and charity donation should not be there. It should be the customers choice if they want to leave a tip or a charity donation, not forced to ask for them to removed from the bill. The DA is a pub that sells food, not a restaurant. The Brockley Jack is also a pub that sells food but they don't add a service charge. I normally leave a 10%-15% tip anyway but a service charge should not appear on the receipt and if i want to donate to a charity id prefer it not to be added to the cost of a meal. The food was fine but i won't be using the Dartmouth...
