Easily one of the best dessert places in and around Ilford! They didn’t pull any punches with the decoration all the way down to the plates and cutlery! Gold spoons anyone? The tables are absolutely gorgeous and when do people ever comment on such things?
I haven’t tried everything yet but their chocolate lava cake and the triple brownies are scrumptilicious! I wasn’t sure about the lava cake’s presentation first time around but on the second visit a wonderful waitress showed me an easy way to pull off the plastic casing around the cake and now I get it! This is quite a clever trick that both adds to the overall presentation of the cake whilst serving a very good purpose! I won’t spoil the experience for you and will say no more!
Sure, the atmosphere is a tad bit fairytale like, almost something out of a Disney movie and may be more suited to couples and family outings, but I went in with a friend and wasn’t bothered one bit! When treats taste this good people will come back regardless of what the place looks like and I’d rather complain and say a place looks overly glitzy than bland and boring!
Last but not least, a big shout out to the staff who are very friendly and accommodating and there seems to be enough of them which is quite rare in most establishments this moment in time!
I will add a suggestion in case the owners see this review, whilst the chocolate lava cake is a force to be reckoned with all on its own, it’s crying out for a scoop of gelato! On my first visit I had it on its own as it comes just to experience it, but on the second visit I ordered a separate scoop of vanilla ice cream to go with it and it was perfect! All the other places serve the lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream so it’s just something I’m used to and it’s a match made in heaven! I did mention this to one of the staff who served us on our first visit and he welcomed the suggestion. Increase the price if necessary but one scoop of vanilla gelato is a must with the lava cake 👍🏼
Unfortunately the word is out (thanks to my own bragging and hyping) and I now have to bring a few other friends here soon, but I’m not really complaining! 🤤😂
As always, I hope they keep up these high standards and if anything only improve things further,. Let’s face it the only people they’re competing against is themselves and I don’t say that lightly as almost every other dessert shop in the area is a joke with the exception of Candy Floss but that’s quite a bit further away! And don’t just take my word for it, check out the other reviews! ……………………………………………… Edit: 12/10/22 The Lava cake now comes with a serving of vanilla ice cream so they clearly valued me as a customer and took my suggestion seriously which is greatly appreciated. 🫡
Tried out a few more treats earlier tonight with the boys and I’m pleased to report that SwirlDrop did not disappoint!
The Mango/Coconut and Pistachio/Rose milk cakes are now my favourite and have knocked off the lava cake from the top spot! However, they’re not what we’d call true milk cake as they’re not soaked in milk and instead come dry with a serving pot of milk. Despite this the cakes themselves were of a very good quality and very more-ish! Seriously the textures of these cakes were just perfect for soaking overnight in the fridge, it’s such a shame! Again we passed on our feedback to the staff and once again they seemed very receptive. Would I order the milk cakes again as it is? I definitely would! 👍🏼
Oh, and a nice touch with the blue bottle of sparkling water!

Read moreMe and my sister had been trying to get out with our girls aged aged 11, 9, 6 and 2 for some time now! It was suppose to be a special treat for them however apart from the fact this place is beautifully decorated and great for taking pictures, the food, and service needs to be looked at.
As we arrived we were greeted with a friendly smile, our kids instantly noticed the swings and as kids do started helping themselves to a little swing, we were then quickly given a table closest to the swings.
We then looked at the menus and decided what we’d like etc. My sister who is heavily pregnant found the sofa seats extremely uncomfortable so moved on to the bucket seats which were unusually low for the height of the table.
We ordered a strawberry mojito and passion fruit mojito with Apple juices for the kids. The kids juices were kindly put into cups which had lids which is great since it eliminated any spills. The passion fruit mojito although it had the strongest passion fruit flavour i’ve had in a mojito was still Okay but the strawberry flavour one didn’t taste anything like strawberry which was quiet disappointing as it looked delicious!
The kids meals were chicken nuggets and chips and fish fingers and chips. The fish fingers were clearly overcooked as one of them were even showing a small burn mark. Nevertheless the kids were hungry and they didn’t mind so we didn’t complain.
We were then brought out the Korean wings we ordered, the flavour was Okay but the chicken was not fresh at all, it didn’t have a fresh colour or texture from inside. The loaded chips were Okay, I didn’t particularly enjoy them but my sister said they were good so i guess its just taste preference.
We both ordered the house special light breakfast. Very disappointed, the eggs were cooked with crispy brown bits around parts of the edges but with a loose jelly bit near the centre (and it wasn’t the yolk as it was white!) - it was to be served with a helping of fruit which was literally a slice of thinly cut orange, a bit shocking that its even advertised as being with fruit as the fruit looked more like a garnish. Overall the food just wasn’t anywhere near up to scratch for the price thats being charged.
We then proceeded to order dessert, gelato for the kids, some brownies, french toast etc - after a while the gelato for the kids was bought out, i believe it was charged at somethIng like £3.50 a serving and no Lie it was Half melted on arrival! I mean who expects melted icecream?? When questioned the staff said it’s because it was hot in the kitchen, Okay fair enough the kitchen is hot but why has no effort been made to get non melted ice cream to paying customers! - while all this was going on a young man which we presume was either related to or owns the shop came by and quiet rudely told us to get our 3 year old nephew to stop standing/ jumping around on the sofa seats, so we stopped him and he ran over to the swings and so the man again proceeded to tell us to get him to stop doing that as he’d hurt himself. It felt more like they were worried their shop and decor was getting ruined than the safety of our child.
This kind of threw us off the edge. I’d kept my sister quiet until then even tho the food etc wasn’t worth the price we were paying.
We paid for the melted ice-creams but cancelled the rest of our order. We spent almost £95 there and it would have been over £100 had we not cancelled everything else. This place is overly priced with poor food. We will not be returning or recommending to...
Read moreVisited today as a group of 10, as part of a colleague’s leaving dinner. We were told before hand to book and money was taken. I was told the price of £24.95 was pp and as a group of 10 we will be given 4 platters. We arrived and were seated in booth, decor and set up was nice. 2 fruit platters (no selection or dips just humous) and 2 bottles of water on the table. Once we opened our fast we were given 2 platters, the platter had no Lebanese potatoes, no samosas, and there was also no house gravy, no raita, no SwirlDrop house sauce. We waited expecting more food. We all literally had 1 piece of small chicken, one of each other thing on platter. Still hungry after a day of fasting, and we were told they put extra chicken and food on each platter to compensate the extra 2 platters that we never got. He also told us that we have to ask for more food because they don’t want food wastage. Bonkers! He then brought a small plate of food containing around 6 potatoes and some chicken and rice which was apparently size of same platter because of limited space on table. Again not even covering a quarter of what’s meant to be on platter. I asked for samosas and he said that 7 reverts (non paying customers) turned up and he had to give them the samosas. Which I feel is very wrong. The service was slow, took 2 waiters to tell them that we were still waiting for more food. I spoke to the lady farida who said “we’re very busy so be patient”, not what u tell paying customers. The milk cake had no milk, asked for brownie and they said we had to tell beforehand but said it will come in 5-10 mins but arrived 40mins later after I had left. Overall very disappointed. If the price of each platter was between 2, like mi chai I wouldn’t have minded, but the only compensation we got was £24.95 was knocked off. Definitely won’t be ever coming back and won’t be recommending this place to family and friends. I felt as I organised this for my friends, I let...
