i work in hospitality myself and my experience tonight was abysmal me and my two friends went into the pub on a quiet friday night we were about to be served and as my friend goes to purchase an alcoholic beverage and a member of staff with a ponytail comes up to the bar and tells the man serving us to i’d us as the drinking age is 21 years and above to get served alcohol on fridays and saturdays which is understandable as i have heard of the issues you guys had with people messing about during the euros but the is a member of staff with a ponytail who stormed up to the bar demanding the guy serving us behind the bar to ID us. We then produced id and they said we could only get soft drinks just as we are about to leave i approach the member of staff with a pontytail and mention to him that they should reconsider the 21+ rule as the majority of people who aren’t, do behave in a respectful manner as i say this he proceeds to start shouting at me and my friends that if we don’t like it then we can take our business elsewhere my friend starts telling me to go but i’m not happy with how this member of staff starts shouting at us for no reason when im asking him a genuine question as i have been in the pub before and every other time has been a pleasant experience. i then ask to speak to the supervisor on shift who dealt with the situation very professionally and calmed the situation down as im explaining what happened i mentioned the way that the man in the ponytail responded was a joke and he then proceeded to threaten me trying to instigate a fight telling me and my friends that we are barred she then tells him to go away as she’s dealing with the situation it’s a real shame as i often love coming to the anchor as the vibe in the pub is very chill but this man needs to be fired if he can’t keep his cool when dealing with a customer i hope this situation is swiftly dealt with. This man had an issue with us as soon as we got there if we were being problematic i would’ve understood and just left but we wasn’t hope this message gets to the owner needs to reconsider the people they are...

My friends and I visited this pub for Sunday Roast on October 6, 2019. The place was recommended by a local who is a regular, who had nothing but good to say about it. It wasn't very busy so we were able to walk in and take a seat. It took about 15 minutes before we were greeted after we had already sat down and found a few menus laying on a table near the toilets. We were ready to order drinks and our food, but it took the girl several more minutes to come back to take our order after she walked away when she first said hello. Three of us ordered Sunday Roast, one a hamburger, and I ordered fish and chips. All three complained about the roast being too tough to chew. The hamburger was ok, but my fish and chips were awful. It appeared I had a large piece of fish, but turned out it was a very small, dried up piece of fish that resembled the consistency of beef jerky vs. fish and it had about an inch thick layer of breading. We asked for silverware, but the girl never brought it. We flagged down a bus boy who was able to provide us with it. We flagged the girl down and asked her 4 separate times for water and drinks, but she kept walking back to the bar and chatting with others. The bus boy was able to bring us water and we saw him ask her to go to our table twice for drinks, which she did not ever do. One of my friends had to walk over to her and ask her again and call her out for ignoring the 4 other times we had asked for drinks and she finally brought us one. We were there about 3 hours total, not by choice, but because we couldn't get service or our bill to pay and leave. It was the worst food and experience in my 10 days...

Booked ahead for a party of 10 adults and 3 children for a birthday early evening dinner at 6 o’clock. Found the bar to be busy and the place had a good atmosphere. When ordering the food we specifically asked for the kids meals to be brought out as soon as they were ready - (fried) chicken nuggets and chips. After about 20 minutes nothing appeared and we asked the staff about the (kids) order to be told they were just coming. I must add that there didn’t appear to be other people ordering food, and only one other table that had had food. I could see food on the pass in the kitchen through the glass door. After another 10 minutes we asked again to get the same answer - with food on the pass still on view through the door. Another 5 minutes later asked a different member of staff (possibly the manager) and got the answer again, but a minute or too later the kids food appeared, closely followed by the rest of the order. Clearly the message of bring the kids food first did not actioned. Some of the food was found to be cold. Manager tried to make amends by offering free ice cream for the children - so thank you for that. I would say the evening meal was a little disappointing with the relatively long wait and quality was nothing to write home about. Am not going...

Lovely Sunday lunch- you make a booking on the website and they email you a confirmation. Website needs a makeover. That said, the service and food were good. Food came reasonably quickly. We had asked for all the food to be brought together. Both starters : halloumi and chicken tenders were good. Husband had a tasty hotdog with a huge portion of truffle fries. Both roasts were substantial. The meats were adequate portions. Personally the beans were over cooked and carrots were over salted . Roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese were good. Mash not needed but who says no to potatoes. Nevertheless decent Sunday lunch with a welcome Yorkshire pudding.

The pub and the garden are very nice. Dogs are allowed and there is air con. Unfortunately the quality of food is poor. We ordered a steak pie and fish & chips. The pie was poorly cooked and the pastry was soggy. The gravy came out thick to the point that you couldn't even pour it out from the jug. The haddock was OK, but the chips were out cold. It also took about more than an hour for the food to arrive. Overall this could be a great place, but as it stands, I'd suggest to only come here for drinks - unless you are up for disappointments.
