Recommended. We've been going to this pub for quite a few years now, usually on a Sunday. We've also hired the function room. Real ale is available, Doom last time I went was great. And there's good Guinness (it should be good, it's an Irish pub!). A big "L" shaped bar area on the ground floor, with a central fireplace. Dining area at the top of the L. There's also a large function room available at the opposite end of the L, which has its own bar. That is at the far end of the corridor where the toilets are. There's a few bench tables out front and more seating in screened garden (full of flowers) at the side. Regulars are friendly. Attentive and friendly staff, especially landlady Jane, son James, Shona and chef Marie. There's frequent entertainment, including the excellent Karaoke DJ Ricky on a Sunday at the end of each month who starts 5pm-ish (sporting events shown on the TVs dotted around can delay start).... confirm when events are on by Facebook page, or phoning. It's on the 469 bus route and your stop is helpfully announced as "The Birchwood" - bus stops right outside. The street outside is unrestricted, park where you want (except on the bus stop!).

We hired the function room for the celebration of life for my partner after her passing and to be honest, we could not have found better. The staff were wonderful and were great help. They provided some of the hot food, and this went down so well. They tended the bar for us too, and the whole thing went off so well. If you want a nice function room for any event, then you must concider this place.

A solid honest community pub offering a reasonable range of keg beers. The Birchwood in Abbey wood is ok. 3cask pumps on the bar but no badges so it looks like they are for decoration rather than work. A newish building with a pleasant barman running the show. Simple but good.

Hired the function room for a wake after my Mum's funeral yesterday. I honestly cannot praise the staff high enough for the way they looked after us. From the initial booking to the end of the evening, everything was perfect. The food was amazing and all freshly prepared and was laid out as good as any hotel i've stayed in. The way the room was decorated was very welcoming and everybody remarked on what was a perfect send off it...

We went to the Birchwood for a wake. The pub was a good size for the group with plenty of seats and tables. There's was food provided, which was excellent. Wasn't sure if the pub supplied the food, but it was fresh and full of flavour. The curry in the slow cooker was ace.

Staff were friendly and quick at clearing plates and glasses from the bar. Drinks were priced very fairly.

We live relatively close, and would...
