The Golden Fish — Restaurant in London

I'm being generous, giving it 2* Sadly not the best value anymore, compared to the past. Having noticed a 15% increase, (in the main meal prices, alone), disappointedly, I found my food, unsatisfactory. Firstly, the portion of fish, was undersized, and was palmed off with this piece by the waitress. I had noticed on my way in, just one piece left in the hot tray, and that ended up on my plate; while a fresh batch was in the fryer. (bare this in mind if you go there!) My plate was then filled with chips to "beef up" the portion. I mentioned the meagre size to (her), who showed little interest, preferring to mock, in that typical "local" taking the "piss", sort of way! (I wished I was on form, and walked out without paying, that would have wiped the "smarmy" smile off her rotund face!) as she seemed to get pleasure out of my displeasure!

I ate the fish, (what there was of it, it cost me £8!) and left most of the chips, which tasted SO bland. (This is a problem they often encounter, due to their selected suppliers, I believe). I'll opt for a "shish" kebab or "pie 'n' mash", next time; or better still, Wetherspoons: least it'll come with a drink!, if I happen to be peckish around that part of 'narm' in...

There's alot of hype for this place and a colleague recommended it to me too. Brought cod and chips and wasn't impressed. Cod tasted stale and it was soggy and the chips was overcooked. I thought I've had bad luck so I tried them again. This time on the same order, I had overcooked chips and the cod looked okay but smelt aweful as soon as I ate into it. By now I was ready to give up as I threw the cod and chips straight in the bin after my first bite. I gave it one more try but this time I asked them for fresh chips and cod, unfortunately once I got home which was within 7 minutes the cod has gone soggy and the batter smelt aweful too. Chips were overcooked again. Now my decision is conclusive about The Golden Fish and that is they aren't meeting my standards and I'm quite easily pleased. I can't understand what the hype is about but I for one shan't be finding out anymore. I agree their portion sizes are decent. Prices are competitive (may be slightly expensive). Customer service experience no problems. Quality of food utter rubbish and therefore they can't justify what they charge for cod and chips when it's been appalling for me on three...

Friday... 5:30pm... & a 15 mins wait for chips, that then ran out because everyone wanted them; who'd have thought it right, so another 10 min wait!!! You're a chippy... the clue is in the title!!! Shambolic; supposed to be fast food. Queued so long... outside & then in; still smell of fat 18hrs later!!! Rude other customers jumped queue; clearly always do this, & then got served as a preference because known there; appalling!!! Chips, as others have said, were tasteless... with the merest sprinkling of salt - a very small portion for £2.95!!! I see others have said the same; wished I'd seen the reviews first; would've swerved this plaice!!! Go somewhere else would be my suggestion, where they know what they're doing & care about having customers - no chips on a Friday dinner...
