The Matapan — Restaurant in London

AVOID AT ALL COST!!!! We went here as the menu on the website looked juicy. However when we sat down, the menu they gave us was different to the what’s on the website. A little note to say the food maybe different depending on the branch you visited would have been nice but no, there was no such thing. We already waited 20 mins to be seated and was hungry as hell that we just ordered rather than walk out. Food took 1 hour after ordering to arrive and disappointed when it did. Fish and chips on the website looked like it was from a fish and chip shop with its beer battered coating however what arrived was a small skinny piece of fish which was breaded and looked like some cheap Lidl oven fish. We came during the government EOTHO scheme, so although we had 50% off I definitely would avoid this if was charged full price.

I got a text a 18:03 to say our table was ready even though our booking was at 18:45. I thought wow that’s great we can be seated as soon as we arrive. But no, when we arrived no one came to us. We was standing outside for 15-20 minutes. When we eventually got seen was told they were sanitising our table and getting it ready. Hold on, then what was that text about about saying out table was ready?

Originally wanted the Mac Daddy which was on the website, but that was not on the menu when we got there. I ended up getting the mega mix grill. There was hardly any steaks meals to choose from unlike what’s on the website where there’s a variety to choose from along with different cuts. If the menu in the restaurant is the same as online then prove it. Send me a photo of the menu. You have my email address

Was told it would take half an hour for the food to arrive, over an hour.

My bro in law ordered the double gammon which comes with two fried eggs. When the guy came out with the food an hour later, he asked my bro in law do you want the 2 fried eggs? Well obviously he wanted it as it comes part of the meal. Basically they forgot to fry the eggs and my eggs also did not originally come out with my meal.

Don’t think I’ll bother calling up. What can you do to rectify this? Offer me a free meal? No thanks, I just don’t trust you’ll do a better job. Probably end up spitting in it for this bad review which I am not...

I Booked the pub for a wake with a deposit a week before. I spoke to a supervisor who didn’t speak to management so when the party arrived the staff on duty had no clue what was going on. There was no food ready the poor staff on duty had run around they handle the situation the best they could. But unfortunately it wasn’t great as the slideshow didn’t work and got told over the phone all I had to do Was bring a cable. The kitchen manager was fantastic she tried everything she could to make the slideshow work. And the gentleman from the bar. But I’m not happy with poor communication from the supervisor , as we had to wait a long time for food. But they still managed to provide the best they could in the short time they knew. I don’t think it was value for money. But the sausage rolls were nice. I hope for the future the supervisor can communicate better so this doesn’t...

Delicious food, big portions and great value! Had the bigger version of the fish & chips, and it could easily be shared between two people. The vegan burger was top notch, full of flavour and not dry at all! Staff was very friendly and the service was fast.

The only downside was that the kids pasta was a bit dry, without much sauce on it. Can't really complain to be honest, got the offer that it costs £1 when you get another adult meal. Very good deal.

Another let down was the back beer garden, it is not looked after at all, but it got so much potential to be really nice. I hope that the current manager sort it out, as it would be really nice to sit on the outside with kids, away from the main road.

Great revamp, the pub looks really nice now. Food is still good, however, it took half an hour to arrive, even though people in the pub were just drinking...
