[Update- I since visited The Horse Guardsman as it's run by the same brewer. I found their cask mild and IPAs a bit lacking, so I think Greyhound have made the right choice sticking with the Best Bitter. It's very nice.. mild banana/hoppy twang. You could always have a Guinness. Did I say the Guinness...]
This is what I CALL a pub!
Cosy wee lounge with real fire, well kept cask ale and when we visited they'd given out complimentary dishes of roasties. They've squeezed in a large telly and locals were watching the footy.
Plus there's a more sparsely decorated separate area with more cafe style chairs and tables on bare floirboards. A bit like the historic Lounge/Public bar setup.
My partner is a "clean freak" (she even worries that if I take too long to drink my tea that dust will fall into the cup and contaminate it). She said the ladies loo was immaculately clean and they even had free sanitary products on offer.

Read moreFor locals only. I went in once 2 years agoand I will never go there again. From the moment we went in and as strangers and foreigners we had been given looks and weird comments and the vibe was like "what the ..ck are you doing here, this is not your place". The place has great potential but tbh having lived in front of it for over 2 weeks just recently I have not once seen it full and buzzing which tells me not much changed since my last visit. Such a shame cuz it could be a great spot as it is just by the canal with a pretty location. Could serve well and make ton of money had it not been full of...
Read moreI've been a few times recently to the Greyhound for drinks both with a friend on my own and I have to say I found it a refreshing well run, really relaxing pub. Friendly landlady, staff and many regular local visitors with or without dogs, some playing darts, others watching tv or just there for a drink enjoying company. I'm not from the area but would definitely go back if in the area again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a friendly pub...
