đ Norwood Junction đşÂ ÂŁ5.20 Heineken
A Must Visit London Pub.
The Joiners Arms is Londonâs most southerly pub with a London postcode. Itâs located on Woodside Green in South Norwood, South London. The nearest station is Norwood Junction, itâs a fifteen minute walk to get here. Alternatively, there is a Tram stop just around the corner.
The Joiners Arms opened its doors in 1856 by the Ind Coope & Allsopp Brewery. The architecture of this pub is that of a Country Pub, which would have been the case when it was built before being swallowed up by suburban London.
This is a one bar pub that is divided in to three adjoining areas. The decor here is fantastic, this low beamed ceiling boozer is full of nooks and crannies and is festooned with all manner of bric a brac. Across the walls and ceiling youâll find pots, pans, horse brasses, cartwheels, lamps, buffalo horns, various stuffed birds, fish, animals and not forgetting a suit of armour and two fish tanks. The copper countered servery is located on the right hand side of the bar and has an original brass till from the 1900âs. There is plenty of seating throughout the pub including a few curved green banquettes with copper topped tables to rest your punt on. Other key features include a brick fireplace, a dartboard, a few Tv screens, a Fruity and of course, a proper pub carpet.
The beer selection was solid, there was a good selection of mainstream beers, Guinness and three cask ales. I decided on a Heineken, my pint was top drawer, price point was great at just over a fiver. This is a Wet Led pub that doesnât serve food.
I visited around 4pm on an overcast Saturday afternoon in January. As I entered I was slightly overwhelmed by the decor which had me looking here, there and everywhere. There is a cosy ambience and a calming atmosphere here. On arrival there were a few punters in the main bar area and a group of lads playing killer on the dartboard in the snug. The soundtrack was 80âs classics from Kajagoogoo and the like.
I had a lovely chat with the Landlord and Landlady about their amazing pub. The Landlord was telling all about his Mum who ran this pub for fifty years, Croydonâs longest serving Landlady. We were also chatting about Guinness and its popularity, he kindly offered me to try a pint as he said his punters rated it, they were not wrong, the Guinness was excellent.
I made quite a schlep to get here and iâm glad I did. This unique oldschool boozer is one of the most charming pubs youâll ever visit. The eclectic country pub decor, the cosy and welcoming atmosphere, the well kept beer and the homely hospitality made for a top tier pub experience. The @joinersarms_woodside is a must visit London Pub.

Read moreWow, what a pub this is! There arenât many left like this in London, the interior and exterior are unspoilt and oh so beautiful for it.
The pub is run by the longest serving landlady in London and it retains all the charm, warmth and comfort a proper pub should do. This pub has a real sense of community, never more apparent than on Sundays when itâs karaoke night.
On top of that the beer is excellently kept, I had a few pints of Landlord that were in top shape and the Guinness is great too.
Hopefully this pub survives in this manner for many years to come, itâs a welcome respite from the soulless, modern, ârefurbishedâ chain pubs that dominate Londonâs pub landscape. I just wish I...
