Do not come here for a Sunday roast last week, and they have clearly changed provider since many of the positive reviews here.
For £19.50/£17.50 you have the pleasure of having some essentially raw carrots, lukewarm cabbage, freezer Yorkshire pudding, granule gravy, and the worst "roast" potatoes I have ever had - possibly multiple days old, and some raw inside. The only passable element was the meat, and for the pleasure of that under-salted but well-cooked pleasure we had to wait 45 minutes+ for our lunch when there were very few other tables in the pub.
We didn't send it back out of sheer hunger, and didn't ask for money off due to English politeness but did point out the flaws in the potatoes in particular when our plates were cleared. The response was very much a shrug shoulders, who cares attitude, and we left very unhappy after being cheated out of best part of £40 for two highly underwhelming small plates of food.
Best avoided unless for a drink - the beers on tap offering and board games are nice touches, but food...
Read moreWe had an absolutely fantastic experience at The King & Co in Clapham! From start to finish, everything was spot on. Ben was the perfect host - incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. He really went above and beyond to make our visit special, and his warm energy made us feel right at home. The Sunday roast dinners are incredible value - hearty, delicious, and beautifully cooked. During the week, they mix things up with a great Mexican menu, which adds an unexpected but very welcome twist to the usual pub fare. It's clear they care about quality and variety here. The atmosphere was lovely - relaxed, welcoming, and full of friendly faces. On a sunny day like today, it was the perfect place to soak up the good vibes and enjoy great food and service. Huge thanks to Ben and the entire team - you made our day at The King & Co one to remember. We'll...
Read moreSunday roast beef was ok. I’m not a fan of food served in a puddle of gravy and this was a swimming pool. The carrot and parsnip were good. Potatoes not crisp or fluffy. They’d sat in a warm oven for too long. Side of pigs in blankets is not good. Tepid, dry and again cooked too far ahead and either badly reheated or kept in a hot cupboard for too long. Cauliflower cheese was over cooked but still quite tasty. Service was fast, pleasant and efficient. £21 a head plus sides plus service made it £30 a head. For what we were served I thought that was a little pricey. Furniture is old primary school desks and chairs and uncomfortable if you’re over four feet tall. Probably wouldn’t return...
