Simmons Bar — Restaurant in London

Last night myself and a friend of mine attended this bar. We had a negative experience from the moment we arrived. Upon arrival we had to provide our ID’s however as my friend was proving this, they originally let her in then made her come back and held onto the ID as they believe this was a fake. It was not. They asked her to prove her identity by showing her Apple ID which contained a nickname, they were planning to keep her ID after she showed this as there was a nickname in the account. After this, she had to provide a bank statement to prove who she is which is unacceptable. I understand that they need to check this however, having to provide a bank statement is out of line. This should not the the way she has to prove this. I believe that they should have better standards to allow people to enter, by asking them to confirm their date of birth or address which are shown on the ID. Her ID did not look fake, it was up to date with an updated address and she looks exactly like her image. This experience has made us no longer want to come here again, we were planning to stay for a while and spend money but this has made us no longer wish to come here. Finally I wish to mention the bar tender who we approached inside regarding this situation, who was helpful and understanding the the situation and was happy to provide a email address to contact the venue. Due to this kind gentleman we were able to proceed with our evening feeling like this comments we made had been listened too. However, we did end up leaving. Despite a good night in the end, I was completely offended and put off due to the way I was treated at the door. Me and my friends had gone out for my friends 20th birthday upon arriving me and my friends were finishing a bottle of wine that I happened to have in my hand. As I know you can’t drink in the queue, we finished the bottle and put in the bin. We had the began queueing and one of the bouncers pointed at me, and said that all of my friends could go in except for me. I questioned them as to why this was. They said that I was breaking the law and that I was drinking in the queue, which I know I wasn’t and thankfully other customers in the queue also defended me. I was visibly upset as all my friends were allowed in except for me and felt I was being penalised. The manager originally didn’t want to hear a word of my side, but eventually decided to listen and became slightly more understanding and eventually let me in. As a 20-year-old girl with family in the clubbing/bar industry a stone throw away from this property, I felt the way they handled the situation was completely wrong and degrading. I hadn’t drank much before entering and was simply not there to cause any issues. I’ve never been refused entry from a bar/club other than this occasion and so this encounter genuinely shocked and upset me on what was supposed to be a fun night out with my friends. Staff and drinks were amazing, however, I feel they need more staff as myself and group of friends came 30mins before Happy hour ended to get told that it had ended after waiting to be served for ages.

My biggest problem was the Dj...within the venue, I find its extremely multicultural so therefore it would be nice to hear everything such as pop, hip hop, dancehall, reggae, afrobeats, amapiano etc. To be told by the dj, no request and played pop all night was not nice, myself and other customers were really offended. Because of this, we left. I have been to several simmons bars and they play everything, why is this branch different?

But overall, despite the rude Dj, we had a ball, your bar staff and security were amazing, polite and mannerable so therefore, we will be back but honestly, Dj at Clapham Fridays especially needs improvement.
