Upon entering The Pear Tree in Surrey Quays for a leisurely breakfast, the charming connection to a coffee shop immediately caught our attention. While awaiting a table, we perused the groceries on display and treated ourselves to a delightful flat white.
The seamless integration of the coffee shop and restaurant created a unique atmosphere. Quick and efficient service enhanced our experience, and the open kitchen allowed us to witness the skilled chefs crafting our meals.
In addition to our culinary exploration at The Pear Tree in Surrey Quays, we seized the opportunity to indulge in some invigorating beverages. Our selection included a bold ginger shot and a meticulously crafted carrot, apple, and ginger juice.
The ginger shot, served in a compact glass, delivered an intense burst of warmth and spiciness. It was a potent elixir, perfectly setting the stage for our breakfast feast. The robust flavor lingered, providing a refreshing and awakening sensation to our taste buds.
Accompanying our meal was the carrot, apple, and ginger juice, a carefully balanced concoction. The sweetness of the apple complemented the earthy notes of carrot, while the ginger added a subtle yet invigorating kick.
Opting for the Australian breakfast, I was met with a plate adorned with a fully loaded English breakfast and two robust apple and pork sausages. The sausages were a highlight, bursting with flavor. However, the baked beans, unfortunately, fell short in terms of taste.
My wife chose the huevos rancheros, expecting a delightful medley of crispy tortilla, spicy beans, chorizo, eggs, and a coriander and avocado mix. While the chorizo boasted well-balanced spices, the dish was marred by a scarcity of beans, leaving it lacking in depth. The portion size, excluding the large crispy tortillas, proved disappointingly small, especially given the relatively high price point.
Despite the culinary letdowns, the ambiance, quick service, and the engaging kitchen view balanced the scales. Considering the overall experience, including the drawbacks, I'd assign The Pear Tree in Surrey Quays a rating of 3.5/5. While it certainly has its merits, improvements in certain aspects of the menu could elevate the...
Read moreWe dined at The Pear Tree Restaurant in Greenland Place, the other day. Earlier that morning, we called ahead to confirm a booking for our group (4 adults 2 kids). The staff assured us that this would not be an issue, and we arrived at the restaurant around 12 o’clock as scheduled.
Upon entering through the front door, where the pastry and sweet display is located, most of our party waited near the front while one member walked ahead. When my friend returned with a tall lady with brown hair, whom I assumed to be the manager, she addressed us in an unnecessarily abrupt manner, asking why we were standing there. When I explained we were with my friend, she repeated the same question in a dismissive tone, looking down at us, and disregarded a clarification offered by another member of our group. The timing and manner felt unwelcoming, especially since we were simply waiting for our table in the space available.
When delivering our drinks, one staff member approached brusquely, asking us to quickly clear a set of cutlery, a mobile phone, and a glass of water so that they could place the tray on the table. The drinks (5 in total) were handed out in this somewhat awkward way, only for the tray to be removed immediately afterward. The interaction felt rushed and unnecessarily tense. Later, when I requested a set of cutlery for my toddler—which ideally should have been provided alongside the food—a different staff member looked at me in a confused and almost incredulous way, leaving me uncertain if she even worked there.
That said, the food itself was great—beautifully prepared and thoroughly enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service detracted significantly from the experience. We dine out regularly, yet I cannot recall the last time I felt so unsettled during a meal despite the quality...
Read moreI used to live on Plough Way and the Pear Tree was my favourite restaurant to visit as the food was of a high quality and the service was impeccable. After having visited multiple times on my own and with family, it brings me such sadness to say that my family and I will not be visiting again. I would firstly like to say that in general, service was not an issue. The young man who greeted us and the young blonde lady who served us for the majority of our meal were both kind, considerate and provided good service. From our drinks order, the vanilla milkshakes we ordered were lovely however the mochas we ordered arrived tepid and extremely bitter. After requesting the drinks extra hot, the lady in red (who we presume was manager) asked us if we wanted them warmed in the microwave or redone. My family and I found this to be a strange request as I have never been asked this in a restaurant or coffee shop prior. Please also bear in mind I have worked within the service industry in various coffee shop/ restaurants and would never ask a customer whether they wanted their coffee order reheated in the microwave. The chicken tenders and pancakes were delicious and loved by all at our table however we found the grilled chicken sandwich lacking. We know that this dish doesn’t come toasted (and take responsibility for having ordered this) however we feel it would add to the dish if the sandwich was warmed and toasted to serve. The ambience of the restaurant as always is relaxing (my whole family agreed) and based on this and the service alone I would recommend. I am sure this may have been a one off. However after having experienced high quality food and service before, I would not return again and would...
