Have visited here before and was very impressed because it has a great outdoor setting. Today however, very disappointed. Went there thinking we would have a nice drink on the outdoors as a family and good grub. When the waiter came to take our order he read out all the different roasts they had. We asked what other food they had and he stated " roast only." When we asked what about a kids menu, he said "kids can only have a roast too." We were very disappointed at this point because there was no mention on the website that they only serve a roast on Sundays. As we were quite hungry, we ordered roast dinners (which arrived lukewarm). 45mins later (17.00hrs) we noticed people getting burgers and chips etc. So it turns out that it's not as the waiter said "roast only" but actually "roasts until 17.00hrs" after which the normal menu is available. Very disappointed. Tried to order drinks several times but most of the staff are there to "clear tables" and only 1 or 2 at most are able to take orders. Very slow service and very disappointed on the food front. Had the waiter told us that the normal menu is available in a shortwhile, we woukd have carried on drinking and ordered other food. Instead we finished out drinks, and those who ordered a roast ate the roast and we left to get food at another pub. Very disappointed on this visit, slow service with waiters not giving accurate info. Maybe they just wanted to get rid of as many roasts as possible to...
Read moreQuite a nice old worldy pub nicely located after a walk around Osterley House and Gardens. It has a cottage type feel to it and a big garden with chickens in a coup (you can’t complain that the eggs aren’t fresh here). It looks to be a Fuller’s pub or possibly not long ex-Fullers given they’re reducing their pub portfolio.
There is a good mix of people here and the food menu was tempting and well priced. Krombacher and Cruzcampo were among the lager options, which were well received.
The chicken Kiev special was very large in size as I succumbed to temptation. Only downside were the staff not being very complimentary about some customers in the pub who were being difficult. It just felt a bit awkward at times. We had no issue with them, but they need to be a bit more professional.
Would definitely return. The staff need to just be a bit more careful with...
Read moreA genuine heritage quintessential English Pub ! The establishment is really old as one can see from the build, the rafters, the fireplaces, the oh so comfy sofas around the fireplaces, the bar and the spectacular outdoor seating areas with the tent like awning covering the outdoor area ! And the food is really good; I just love their chunky chips, crisp on the outside and fluffy from the inside and I think truly the best I have had anywhere in London !!! The staff is friendly and helpful which makes the place a very nice place to meet up with friends and business associates ! But unfortunately I hear that the pub might be closing down as the lease is coming to an end ? It would really be a tragedy to lose such wonderful venue if it were to close down; It would really be a loss to the community ! I hope someone who can do something about it...
