Our experience at Village Indian Restaurant yesterday was disappointing, to say the least. We had booked a table for three over the phone for a quiet Monday evening. On arrival, the restaurant was nearly empty, with just six other diners present.
We were promptly asked if weâd like poppadoms, followed by a mixed grill. The mixed grill, priced at ÂŁ16.90, was underwhelmingâone small kebab, four tiny chicken pieces, and a minuscule lamb chop with barely any meat on it. It left us wondering how this even qualified as a "mixed grill." Though the taste was okay, it was far from impressive.
Feeling unsatisfied, we decided to order some curry. Abdul, who was attending to us, suggested "Kamasutra Chicken" and lamb curry, which totaled around ÂŁ27. He remarked that other curries were more suited for non-Asian tastes, a comment we found surprising and somewhat off-putting.
Ten minutes after our curries arrived, Abdul returned and told us that the chef was unhappy with the way we were ordering in stages, claiming it disrupted the workflow. He insisted that we place all our orders at once or consider dining elsewhere, despite the restaurant being half-empty. His tone was rude, and his demeanor aggressive, completely ruining the dining experience.
Reluctantly, we ordered our mains, but by then, the atmosphere was ruined. We left most of the food untouched, as it became impossible to enjoy the evening. The quality of the food itself was mediocre, with nothing standing out as exceptional.
This was the first time weâve ever encountered such unprofessional behavior, with a chef dictating how diners should order and a staff member making us feel unwelcome. I hope the restaurant management addresses Abdul's attitude and ensures better customer service in the future.
Sadly, this ruined what should have been a pleasant night out. I wouldnât...

Arrived and they only placed out 9 plates with cutlery and when asked about the other seat they tried to push everyone up on a tiny bench expecting 6 adults to squeeze onto a tiny bench let alone eat like it! With plates and drinks Then to be told every person needs to order a main and using bullying tactics to try and force a main on to everyone after being told several times I would just like a sauce chips and a rice even though all the other people in the party ordered a main they couldnât let one slide! Terrible quiet atmosphere the worst Indian Iâve ever visited rude staff bunch of jokers! AVOID
Seeing as I cannot respond to the lies of a reply I will edit my comments- your âwaiterâ only got to the 4th person before throwing a tantrum about everyone needing a main! I was the only one who didnât want one if he wouldâve carried on taking the order he wouldâve realised that. You was asked 10 times as it will show on your âCCTVâ to bring the bill so we could pay and leave and you all were to busy running your mouths. No where in law does it say we have to pay for service we are unhappy with although we was happy to! Remember you are a service in case you forgot however we was still willing to pay for the 20 poppadoms you brought over hahahah. It was a table of 10 it would have been a ÂŁ400 bill easy but you wanted to penny pinch over one person not getting a main! I look very much forward to hearing from the police :).
AVOID THIS...
Read moreHands down the best Indian meal I've ever been out for! Delicious food with points of difference in every course...from the mangoiest mango chutney I've ever had to the creamiest sag paneer I've ever had. Simple things like being offered more onion salad when it was noticed we were running low with our poppadoms pointed to great service throughout. Main course dishes of veggie byriani, which comes with a lentil sauce and is beautifully cooked and their signature dish of Kamra Sutra were excellent too. Above all else the naan filled with chicken tikka & spinach and topped with cheese was a real game changer! With this being BYO it makes it very affordable. I was driving and was delighted to see they had my fave cider available in an alcohol free version, spot on. We will be back, and soon!...
