It was alright. Maybe as this is the first few weeks of opening, perhaps some staff were nervous or not totally familiar.
Unlike other Brewdog bars you were not allowed to just walk in, despite alot of the reservations being for the evening with 'feel free to sit here until then' tags just like at other venues and the place having a second floor which despite being open wasn't advised to us by staff. We were then actually chaperoned to a table (not trusted to do that on our own I guess) despite this table only being right next to the main door and right by the desk this staff member was standing at when we arrived! There was no obvious sign telling people to wait to be seated either.
There was a staff member with a big beard who made us feel a bit uncomfortable as he couldn't seem to leave us alone and always seemed to be hovering. As we were thinking of leaving for our train (only came in for approx 2 or 3 halves) and before we'd even finished our last drink he came over and bluntly said 'will THAT be ALL or can I get anything else' which was weird as he already knew I was using the app or going up to the bar.
To clarify we'd sat on a table (after being chaperoned) that was reserved for 19:00 and we visited approx 12:30/13:00 and only had 3 halves each and some chips.
The chips were nice as always, and the beer that was on was good quality.
There are no issues with the other staff. Except for a bit of an issue with one of the tills accepting EFP cards/ barcodes, however, this was quickly fixed.
Best of the staff was a young brunette girl who was on the bar and also serving food and drinks via the app she was really good and very professional and knew the bar layout well when I was looking for the toilet, she came over without being asked and told me where they were, this was appreciated.
Service was also quick.
Only one guest beer on which, even for a smaller Brewdog location, is odd.
I'm not sure I'd return as despite us turning up at lunchtime, sober, and only staying for a very short while before catching the District line elsewhere, we didn't feel welcome.
Also unrelated to the review but having heard the recent news, surely Ipswich would of been a better place for a craft beer bar like Brewdog, not Upminster as most patrons weren't even drinking the brewdog beer but had wine and...
Read moreGiven this is a new addition to Upminster, i really want to be positive about this venue as we need more options for a night out. Unfortunately, it does not live up to expectations. The drinks selection is good if a little pricey - central London prices.
This evening, our experience was farcical. We arrived on time for our table, were asked to wait by the bar for it to be cleared; we were only shown to the table after chasing up some 20 mins later. Who knows how long it would have taken to be seated if we had not chased.
The experience did not improve when we were seated at our table. Our sharing starter of wings turned up as a single person's starter person. This was resolved, but again another 15 mins passed...
When the mains came, one of the 3 burgers was charred black. The staff were quick to act, but the replacement burger supplied was different to our order and was missing the fries...The third attempt was the correct burger, but this arrived some 30+ mins after the other mains.
The staff were apologetic, but the sequence of mistakes is not acceptable. I really hope this can be turned around, as many aspects of the bar are good. New venues are a positive addition, but service standards need to be better to ensure these venues are here for the long term.
Will give Brewdog another chance, fingers crossed for a...
Read moreCharged me for a side dish they incorrectly served to someone else and refused to take it off the bill. When I suggested I'd leave my details and leave the security staff blocked my exit and stopped me leave. The duty manager even admitted it was her mistake. Paid up in the end and left, without giving a tip which would have more than covered the £4.5 they were after.
The response provided by the unnamed owner of the Brewdog Upminster is both inaccurate, untrue and completely biased by their opinion of the matter or what they have been told 2nd or 3rd hand. I asked for the coleslaw to be removed from the bill which was refused. I offered to leave my details for you to follow this up in person, but your staff refused to provide me with a pen. The issue was certainly not of any of the diners making and the way it was responded to, bearing in mind it wasn't our fault, was unacceptable and spoilt my evening. If you serve food on a plate to a customer, I don't believe it's unreasonable for them to assume everything on that plate is for them. No one was rude nor yelling. Given accusations and lack of responsibility in the response Ill purse the issue via the company's...
