Waffle Jack's American Diner — Restaurant in London

My experience was poor and I have to question, as have some other reviewers, why all the great ratings. The decor is fun, the staff was initially very friendly but once food came we were pretty much ignored and left with dirty plates and dishes in front of us till we left. Nobody came to check if the food was good or if we needed any more drinks. My meal was frankly awful, not sure how you can mess up macaroni cheese but it tasted bland (no obvious taste of cheese), sloppy and pasta overcooked. The latte was ok. Kids meals looked so-so, nachos looked floppy like they'd been microwaved with the cheese rather than oven baked to keep them crispy. Chips were a bit soggy. But the most extraordinary things was the jaw dropping abusive, aggressive responses I received from the owner through TripAdvisor website for daring to state my opinion. Another customer here has mentioned how the owner addresses his wife, I can well believe it!!!!!!! If John Cleese made a comedy video on how NOT to handle a customer complaint, he couldn't beat this guy!

First update:: The response below was NOT the response I got on trip advisor at all. I received two extremely long irate and personally insulting replies that beggar belief and allowed no possibility that the restaurant could have fallen short, as well as legal threats. These he did NOT post on TripAdvisor. I did, on one previous occasion comment politely to the owner in person and away from other customers and was dismissed summarily. I am stating opinion. That is permitted.

I did however misspell the word "abysmal". I would like to blame autocorrect but it was indeed my mistake.

An American Style Diner in a unexpected location in Wimbeldon, we would drive pass the place regularly, so we decided to see what the place had to offer.

Firstly we had no reservation, and this place was extremely busy. Be warned this is a small restaurant so if you want to sit around a table with friends, family or if you have a baby like us try to book in advance. Although this was not a problem we were seated on their many highchairs and ordered, as soon as a table freed for us we were seated.

I don't want to go into what the menu had to offer, as I by no means am a American Diner specialist. If you had asked me to make a menu for a American Diner I would of probably added many of the same things. As for their food it was nice; fresh, warm, generously portioned. Someone who knows American dining food may disagree with me about their choice of menu, and maybe rightly so. I guess for me it all adds to the nostalgic feel that goes with the decor and music.

Which brings me to the service... arguably the most friendly, attentive hospitality I have seen, without being disruptive. I always try to support smaller businesses, therefore I can overlook smaller issues which I would probably be less likely to do so for larger chains and franchises. My visit to Waffle Jack's I was lucky enough not to experience anything bad, was everything perfect? No. But I know they're trying to move in that direction. Would I go again? Without a doubt. If you are looking for something a bit special then this place is perfect!

I had a cricket match nearby and arrived early so decided to go for lunch... enter Waffle Jack's. I walked in the door and was greeted like an old friend and made totally at home, the staff and management are the nicest people you will ever meet! The place is decorated with some amazing items and has a great atmosphere and a real buzz of excitement. The menu was vast with anything from omelettes to steak and of course... Waffles! The food was exceptional and the kitchen team do an amazing job to provide great tasting food time and time again!

I enjoyed the experience so much in went back the next morning for another helping of incredible cuisine!

Note to anyone visiting! The milkshakes are the best in europe and it might sound strange but get the passionfruit milkshake, the manager advised me to try it and boy was he right!

You will not be disappointed!

Some people write reviews that might be negative but ignore those "Haters". Go and give it a try, I guarantee that you will go back there to try something new and have a great time.

Note For all Cricket teams visiting the area! They take bookings and serve massive burgers and beer!!! What more could you ask for!
