Food and ambiance (even though outside) was PERFECT! I just love visiting here. We have always had such a lovely time regardless of what occasion we end up visiting Mrs Salisbury's for. This particular time was a spur of the moment thing. We were able to sit out on the grass area at the back of the tea rooms. The service was a little slow to begin with but because the weather was ok and we hadn't visited anywhere for a while we just enjoyed sitting out and having a chat amongst people. the food and drinks were all lovely. The cheese ploughman's was delicious and plentiful. I would definitely recommend their cheese ploughman's as the cheese you get is enough for you to really get the taste of and enjoy with the sour dough bread and salad. The staff were all helpful and polite. The only thing I didn't quite agree with was the use of the blankets - everything is sanitised before you sit down and get to your table then you see blankets being given out to people, put back in the treasure chest and then the same blankets are given back out all folded to be reused without cleaning!! I took my own blanket as I wanted to make sure I didn't get cold and that I knew it hadn't been touched by anyone else knowing the present climate of things at the moment. So yes, Mrs Salisbury's has thought of everything but perhaps not thought through everything! I would always recommend a visit to Mrs Salisbury's Tea Rooms. We look forward to...
Read moreHave always loved going here and look forward to every visit. Food is always fresh and good quality, good coffee and great service.
So I was more than a little surprised when we walked in this morning, a beautiful, warm sunny day, high street buzzing, and the place was completely empty. Lovely breakfast as usual but got a horrible shock when it came time to pay! £14 for a full English is expensive enough, but we had to pay extra for baked beans and a bit of cheese in our scrambled eggs! Come on guys, a tin of beans costs pennies. So a full English with beans and a sprinkling of cheese comes in at around £16!! Really! The total bill for 2 breakfasts, 4 flat whites and a 10% tip was just shy of £51. To me, that's insane. It's breakfast!
On our way back to the car we passed the Continental Café at the top of the high street and there wasn't a spare seat to be had. Interesting.
Sadly won't be going back to Mrs S, not at those prices. Not if I'm paying anyway.
P.S. Your full English advertises 4 rashers of bacon, I got 3 and they were tiny, almost the size of a Kit Kat finger. This might sound petty, but times are tough and people need...
Read moreAn absolutely beautiful building, which feels well loved and cared for. The bathrooms are clean, well stocked and non-binary. We came in for a roast on a Sunday. The service was polite, funny and caring. The food was out of this world! Beautifully delicate starters, a hearty roast, delicious coffee, which was happy to be replaced for free when I miss ordered and gorgeous desserts. A massive recommendation! I hope they keep the roasts coming as they are spectacular!
If I was to be really really picky, my only things I would improve are:
Thicker gravy that comes on the side with the roast The Yorkshire puddings should be cooked in beef fat, or a much much nicer oil And I think the rossis and Cadbury brands used are a bit run of the mill and for us don't scream quality. Being close to Pump Street Chocolatiers I think it would be good to partnership with them, and although my ice cream was nice I think other brands who make Gelato are better.
The extra 2% so make it completely peerless!
Thank you so much, we can't wait to come and bring our...
