Excellent lunch and beautiful venue. This was the first time I have visited Mansfield and was recommended to visit Il Russo. The staff were very helpful as it was our first adventure out after Covid and we were unsure of the current requirements. As it was a lovely warm summer day we opted to sit on the terrace. It was beautifully laid out with tables of all sizes. I thoroughly recommend booking in advance as it was very busy even for a Monday lunchtime. I was disappointed that the pots of plants were plastic as the natural fragrance would have added to the ambience. However I appreciate that plants need TLC and can shed leaves everywhere. Regarding the menu we were totally spoilt for choice. We decided on a glass of prosecco as a starter. It was chilled to perfection with a raspberry added. My friend ordered moules which were served with rustic bread. I opted for the smoked haddock risotto. I wasn't disappointed. Unusually for us we both ordered desserts. My friend ordered chocolate brownie served with ice cream. I opted for cheese cake which was baked as opposed to a chilled dessert. Served with fruit compote. I also ordered a cappuccino as I was so chilled that I thought I would nod off. Already looking forward to our next visit.

We went to il Rosso for a roast yesterday. We ordered - Frozen Daquiri’s - Bruschetta (starter - to share) - Two roasts - one shoulder of lamb and one vegetarian sausage The daiquiri’s were lovely! We both enjoyed our roasts two, well seasoned and presented well. Generous portions (so definitely needs an empty stomach) & The bruschetta was a pleasant surprise, but there were a couple things which made me take a star away… - the tomato jam and guacamole was a unique idea but the balance of flavours of the jam I found to be too sweet (personally)… a pico de gallo salsa (or other more savoury tomato component) would have worked better for me… - I’m quite particular with vegetarian sausages in general, wasn’t a big fan of the ones used… definitely would have preferred a nut roast or something else… they were ok though - greedily would have wanted more of the shoulder of lamb and parsnips… Regardless of this, the roasts wrote delicious, very minor tweaks would have made it great

Extremely poor service twice in a row. With a friend last year (and I thought it was possibly a one-off) and on Sunday. Both times, long wait for poor quality food, staff that ignored us and behaved as if they couldn’t be bothered. I took my boys there for Mother’s Day as a change-we usually go to Ciao Bella. We were sat at quite a visible table because it was right in front of the kitchen entrance. We had to wait 15 minutes to get our orders taken despite the fact that the staff were walking up and down right in front of us, most often empty-handed and seemingly without purpose although I get that might not have been the case. Eventually, the staff member that seated us took our order. I ordered a starter and main and my boys a 12ā€ pizza each. I asked for the starter to come with the pizzas because my children were already famished partly due to the wait. Food came, pizza crusts rather burnt and likewise one of my slices of bread for the pate, which was actually tasteless, surprisingly. The slice of bread was changed and we carried on eating. Finished my starter and sat there waiting. My boys finished their pizzas and I still sat there waiting, with this member of staff failing to make an appearance to clear our dishes and produce my main. Finally, another staff came to clear the table and I told her i was still waiting for my main, this was now almost an hour since we were seated. From that point, things are a bit of a blur because it went from bad to worse, with another staff asking me if she could clear my starter dishes which were obviously finished with. Anyway, I asked for the manager at this point, lo and behold it was the staff that seated us, and I assume, solely responsible for our table. I told her I didn’t get my main to which, instead of being mortified and apologetic, she was asking me irrelevant questions so I told her not to ask me silly questions to which she replied that she didn’t come to work to be ā€˜spoken to like that’. I replied that she should be doing a much better job then. To compound issues, a table was seated after us, and the table consistently got served before us. The restaurant had also become much quieter by then, so I can’t even afford them that excuse. Anyway, I asked for the bill because it was already an hour of our arrival by this time and I was given a bill which included the main that never materialised and even after that was taken off, it was still astronomical -Ā£64 for two pizzas, a pate starter and two drinks-soft and mojito. Just shocking all-round. When you go to Ciao and other well-run restaurants in Mansfield, as soon as you’re seated, staff will ask you at every 2-3 minutes interval if you’re ready to order, and service is usually quite good. Il Rosso would do well to...

A disappointing experience after hearing good things about this restaurant. Booked in for 6 of us for a Thursday afternoon lunch. Were shown through to the terrace area which had the roof closed. Sitting down we discovered leftover pizza beneath the table I'm assuming from the night before. Settled at the table a man then came out and started opening the roof, he didn't consult us before doing this, it was an overcast grey day, had we known this was going to happen we could have chosen to eat inside. There was a delay in both the taking of our food and drinks orders. Mine and another member of our families main course arrived a good 5 mins before the rest of the food so being polite to the rest of the family we sat and watched our food get cold. Mind you we couldn't have started as we hadn't even been given any cutlery yet, this had to be brought to the attention of the staff. I had the tapas 3 dishes and another the ceasar salad with a side of fries. My tapas came with a bowl of fries on the slab, it turns out these were not mine but supposed to be my daughter's partners, we weren't told this. Unfortunately I had already shared these with the rest of the family waiting for their afternoon tea to come out. I felt the tapas portions were a bit stingy for the price, 5 tiny scampi bites and a house salad which was a handful of babyleafs 3 small squares of pepper and over dressed with an oily dressing. We were also questioned verging on interrogated on our prepayment/deposit at the time of our bill payment when we questioned the price. We had already paid a deposit but were questioned at the table that we had not. On double checking their receipt book they found that yes we had already paid this. This shouldn't have happened if this had already been checked. Overall a disappointing experience with poor service and attention to detail from staff. I won't visit again and...

Can I just say this is the first time I have ever written a bad review but unfortunately with the circumstances I believe this is only appropriate. I came for Breakfast with my friend, the Breakfast arrived cold and my friends order was wrong, we had been waiting for our drinks for over 20 minutes which had clearly been forgotten about. We gave them a gentle reminder and they didn’t arrive until after we had eaten. Anyway, we didn’t kick up a fuss as I appreciate they were busy so we left unsatisfied and I thought that was it. 2 months later I receive a parking fine for Ā£75 through the post, I tried calling and the lady & explained there must have been a mistake, she told me to email with all the details to get this resolved. I was seen on CCTV (as seen on the fine) Parking at the exact same times on the reservation, (which I could prove as I still had the email booking) & I put my number plate in as requested at the bar, it was down to them to check the CCTV for this inside the building. The staff were extremely unhelpful, I only had one response on email, the rest were ignored and I had no choice but to pay it. This is absolutely appalling and I have never been treated so badly as a guest at a restaurant. I had to pay Ā£75 for parking in their own car park at the exact times of my reservation and I could even prove it. It was either 1 digit that was wrong on the iPad, or the iPad was faulty and it didn’t submit. It’s upsetting as the place has a lot of potential but unfortunately it’s just gone down hill and I won’t be...
