Visually the restaurant looks very modern with pink trees in abundance. The owners have obviously done their homework and looked at the London restaurant scene. Loud dance music, visually pleasant and great choice of drinks with some fantastic food.
Well two out of four isn't bad and thats not great either. Music and scenery, if you like that sort of thing, were on point for a new Gen restaurant.
The front of house was as expected smiling, pleasant and directed us to our table. From here on the experience went plunging into an abyss.
We asked for a drinks menu and was told that they only had a cocktail menu's? So we were left wondering if they served beer or wine? The choice of food was very basic with no distinction from any other mid range eatery. Burgers, steak, pizza and tapas, which you can find in most restaurants in the area. Staff were polite however couldn't work out their table numbers so drinks and food either going to the wrong table or just not turning up. Quality of our food was mediocre. The pink lighting didn't help with seeing your food. We ordered a mixture off the menu from steak, burgers, pizza and veggie option. Two of the burgers didn't turn up for upto 20 mins after everyone was served. The veggie option was incorrect but my wife decided to eat it anyway as she feared she wouldn't get anything before closing if she let them know. We were offered free drinks as compensation which we took however drinks took a long time to arrive which was the case for most of the evening. When I finally got my basic burger it was burnt on one side, if you can't get a burger right you need to step away from the kitchen. The slaw must of had a whole onion in it but they knew how to fry some chips. The pizza was totally preposterous. Deep pan pizza that looked like a loaf of bread with tomatoes and cheese on top. They went with quantity rather than quality. Apparently this venue is owned by local restaurateurs, I'm not sure who they are or which other restaurant they own but I hope that they can bring their A game to this place.
The cherry on the cake was when we asked for the bill. The table next to us were given the wrong bill (ours) so the staff were trying to work out what happened and found their mistake and made sure we were given the correct bill.
With the cost of living increasingly making it difficult for most families to enjoy a good night eating out. I would expect to get a better meal than I can prepare at home when eating out.
All in all not a great visit or a great start for Serenity. Better training of staff, a unique offering of good quality food and drink is needed for this restaurant to deserve...
Read moreTable of 7 on Saturday Night for my Daughters 16th Birthday. I get that this is a new venue and there will be teething challenges, however I understand this venue is owned by serious restauranteurs who should know the value of training staff and hitting the ground running?! The young lady who was our server for the Evening really needs some serious training in customer facing hospitality! She really looked like she didn’t want to be there at all and everything was such an effort!. Not once were we asked if everything was ok with our meal and neither asked if we wanted another drink throughout the 2 hour visit. £30 down the drain for the venue!!.
I get that Tapas is cooked to order and comes out separate and when ready but 4 of us had finished our meal before 3 pizzas were delivered for the boys! These pizzas have no place on a serious chefs menu they are poor. Firstly they are large deep pan that will take an age to cook from fresh, so it’s obvious they will arrive after everything else unless the order is staggered correctly by the chef, it was actually 35 minutes from order. They are also terrible, just thick dough. I get having pizza on the menu but for heavens sake put a couple of thin base on there instead, these would cook far quicker and take pressure of the kitchen also..
My tapas was actually really nice, every single dish, the flat iron steaks were also really good, although one had been rested too long and had gone cold. Some of the desserts were a shocker! Had to ask the young lady server where they were as 30 minutes from order and still not arrived. She said she would check and continued to walk the other way from the kitchen!!!!!🤦🏼♂️ They finally arrived and the ice cream had started to melt and the cheesecake base was far too heavy with poor topping! To be honest Nando’s cheesecake is far better and that’s just not good enough.. When coming to attempting to pay the bill this took 15 minutes which is a joke! 3 senior staff were stood at the till chatting away and totally unaware of customer needs around them, again not good enough for a serious restaurant and not an example to be setting to waiting staff.
So overall this place has potential, the front of house staff need some serious training or replacing and parts of the menu really need rethinking.. I will be prepared to give the place another opportunity at some point but if it’s the same again I won’t bother. It won’t stay open long unless it improves as people will vote with their feet. With a bill of £210 I...
Read moreI have been wanting to visit Serenity for a while and I went today with a friend for lunch, for her birthday. It was a quiet Thursday lunchtime and about one quarter of the restaurant was occupied. The person that showed us to our table could not be called a greeter because there was certainly no greeting or friendly welcome in her manner. When the waitress approached our table to take our food order, we were not asked about allergies prior to ordering food nor were we advised of any menu items not being available. I chose 2 tapas items off the menu, to be told 1 of them was unavailable so I had to quickly choose something else. My friend ordered a noodle dish and the waitress asked what sauce she wanted to accompany it. My friend was not aware of the dish she had chosen being served with a sauce and the waitress did not explain or direct my friend to where the sauces could be found on the menu, and she was very abrupt in her manner. Had the waitress explained or made reference to the menu, it would have become apparent at that point that she had misheard my friends order. When our food arrived my friend was served a kebab and not a noodle dish. My friend explained her food was not the food she had ordered and the waitress offered to take the dish back to the kitchen and bring what had been asked for originally. This would have meant we would have been eating separately, so my friend chose to keep the kebab so we could eat our meal together. During the meal we were not visited by the restaurant staff and asked how the food was, I can only assume this was because the staff suspected we weren’t happy. When we paid the bill I asked if we could pay for the food ordered, to be told we had eaten the food so there would be an expectation we would pay for what we had eaten. I agree this is a fair request as we had eaten most of the meal, I paid the bill but I did not feel the experience had been worthy of a tip. Our food order was incorrect, the food was mediocre and all 3 members of staff we came into contact with presented neither friendly or welcoming.
The restaurant is beautifully and tastefully decorated and it looks warm and inviting, it’s a pity it’s staff do not exhibit similar attributes.
I can see Serenity generally has good reviews and is clearly for many other customers their idea of good food and good service, but disappointed is how we were left feeling after this, our first...
