I'm giving this pub a 5 star review as it's a great, cosy pub that me and my colleagues from The Shirley Band enjoy frequenting near enough every Friday night after our rehearsal at the memorial hall up the road. Always a great selection of drinks including craft ales and quality largers and plenty of choice from craft spirits including gin. However, I doo regretfully have to report one staff member for being extremely rude and having exceptionally poor customer service. My other half treated herself to g+t (she normally drives us home so usually has a soft drink but I offered to reverse the roles this evening so she could have a drink). She went to take a seat and left me to collect the drinks and pay. When I brought the drinks to the table my other half told me that she had ordered a rhubarb gin but the one in the glass was plain. I took it back to the barman and explained this and asked for a fresh drink (which I would have happily paid for). He refused saying that my partner had ordered a plain gin and that he could take the drink back and replace it despite the fact that he'd made a mistake. I explained thar she had definitely ordered a rhubarb fi'n as i had heard her say that but he disputed this and still refused to exchange. I then asked if i could have a rhubarb fi'n and tonic and he said no before walking off to serve another customer. I was appalled. I work as a customer service inspector and I can categorically say that that would be an instant fail for the establishment if that had been observed during an inspection. 'The customer is always right' and if an employee makes a mistake then compensation should be offered.

The barman is tall, lanky, skinny, wears glasses and has short blonde hair. I haven't seen him since this incident (which was several weeks ago now) so perhaps he has left by now. Hopefully...

First off the staff were lovely, friendly & welcoming but I'm not sure if it was an off day for the kitchen. We booked a table for a Sunday roast, they rang befor hand to say they were working on a limited menu which was fine as it didn't affect us. We arrived and ordered, wasn't a hot counter like you usually see it was order and it got plated up for you in the kitchen. When it arrived it looked pleasing but that's about it. First the veg, very nice I must say, they had a lovely crunch to them and seasoned very well. Next the potatoes, deffinatly not home made they were to uniformed for that, slightly under cooked some were hard in the middle (personal prefrance) but I suspect frozen. Next meat, turkey & beef. Beef was beautiful, lovely colour and suculant, alot of fat on it though but that's the best bit lol. Turkey was really moist and just pulled apart with a fork, I would love to know how they cooked it to get it that moist. Next Yorkshire puds, very disappointed with them, weren't home made, cold & had a horrible chemical taste to them. Next gravy, I suspect it was pre mixed stuff with some beef juice added after (a favourite trick of mine) so I knew the taste. I may go again in the week hopefully they'll have...

I was looking forward to dinner the pub looked lovely. Meal deal was on and that was a nice surprise. Sadly very disappointed with the hunters chicken when it arrived. The whole bottom of the chicken was like white jelly. I commented to the waitress who said "well that's how it comes from our supplier its all pre packed" she said this 3 times whilst I spoke to her and said it didn't look right. My Daughter then said well can you please replace it and there was no offer from the girl...ok said the girl what do you want. I ordered the fish, I ate my chips as they would have been cold by the time the fish came. As my Daughter was at the bar ordering more drinks I asked her to order another lot of chips to eat with my fish. The kitchen door was open as the girl asked the lady chef to add chips which I hasten to add I paid for and the woman in the kitchen replied "are you taking the Pxxx!" Most unprofessional, my first and last visit being treated as if I was at fault for complaining about chicken that wasn't right! I'm not one to complain and felt I wasn't treated with any respect felt uncomfortable and left annoyed and upset as my evening with my Daughter had been ruined. Think you need to sort out your...

Visited few last month for a Sunday lunch with family and kids. Called a day before to book as nice weather was expected however told that no need to book if seating outside. On the day was told that Sunday dinners sold out very quickly which was very surprising as pub did not appear to be busy. Settled on making alternate order which was not a problem however meals were taking exceptionally long time to arrive. I have ordered a burger instead that has been quite disappointing after an hour wait. Kids got bored very quickly especially so that the play area was closed due to damage. Staff have been attentive in checking on us however could have advised at the time of order that it will be a very long wait perhaps. Other that that lovely, tidy pub that offers nice selection of drinks on the side of a canal with nice garden.

Good beer, attentive service but just better than average food. I’ll explain. The previous night we ate at an expensive pub a few miles down the canal. I felt it under-delivered the pub vibe and over-delivered slightly poncy food at what we felt were expensive prices. At the Wharf Tavern we got decent food in a nice pub atmosphere at prices nearly as expensive as the place from the previous night. Did we get better value from the poncy place or the Wharf? Hard to tell. Would we go back to the Wharf? Probably, yes. Would we go back to the poncy place? For a treat, maybe. There’s the difference. Without meaning it as an insult, The Wharf is a Common or Garden variety British pub with honest beer and food even if just a little expensive than we hoped. So on balance it was perfectly fine and we had a decent meal.

Visited on a week night when the pub was very quiet, however I didn't have a great experience unfortunately. I ordered a steak and whilst I wasn't expecting much I certainly wasn't impressed when I had to chase my meal after 45 minutes only for it to come out very overcooked. At this point I wasn't sending the food back in the fear of having to wait again for my meal so I must add that I didn't give them the opportunity to fix it. We sat outside at first for some drinks and what has the potential to be a nice beer garden is unfortunately not very well kept, full of dog poo, litter and a random Tik-Tok bouncy castle.
