I booked 2 rooms for 3 nights for myself, my husband, and our 15 year old daughter for a birthday weekend for her. You can't book the room for the 15 year old on her own, you have to say an adult is going to be in there. So she ended up with 2 single beds. On arrival we were greeted by the most argumentative receptionist I have ever met. Kasim has zero customer service skills. More about that later! The rooms have what you need and the comfy premier inn bed! But the whole hotel could do with a bit of an upgrade, it feels a little tired. The view from our room was quite grim over the back of the attached beefeater, apparently where they dump all the kegs and broken things. The bathroom shower was great, hot and with great pressure. But there are the beginnings of mould growing in the corner from the condensation. And there isn't a heated towel rail so getting your towel dry was hard unless you asked for new ones every day, which we didn't in the interests of doing our bit for the planet. Booked 2 rooms but on arrival we weren't put anywhere near each other! We came back early evening on the second day to find our key cards wouldn't work. I left the family on a square of landing and went to reception. The lovely man on reception was quick to reprogram them and suggest not putting them near mobile phones during the day. On day three we again got back in the early evening to find the key cards wouldn't work. Husband is desperate for a wee and again had to leave him on a little square of landing to go and get the cards reprogrammed. Only this time it was Kasim on reception and his customer service skills kicked in once more by practically blaming me for breaking the cards, and for daring to be disgruntled at the fact they weren't working again! It didn't make our last evening there a pleasant one. On the whole, we had a pleasant trip, but not because we stayed in a great hotel, more that we have a good time as a family. The hotel is lacklustre. The car park looks shabby and that one staff member let his team down. We won't be...
Read moreNow I, like many, enjoy staying at a premier inn when travelling in the uk and at times will stay a little further away from my destination just to stay in their hotels. This again was true with Hockley heath. My partner, her daughter, aged 5 and I booked for 2 nights here. We arrived and were greeted by happy staff, yes the place seems run down and the outside could do with a lick of paint but you could see that the rooms were newly decorated and updated with a fan. Now this was new to me as I had never needed a fan in a premier inn due to the in room aircon, that I suddenly realised wasn't there on a very hot July weekend. Night 1 was ok, window open, warm but I was able to sleep. Day 2 we went for breakfast which was of the same great standard that we had come expect, cooked to order so no solid rubbery eggs etc. And we went out to meet friends who lived 15 minutes away. Now, unfortunately whilst out my partner ended up in hospital so in a panic I rushed back to get bits for little one to stay at our friends and explained to the guy on the reception what had happened and the possible need to extend our stay. He was great and advised we could extend and keep our room, great!! Much later that night we returned and booked for a further night as my partner was advised not to travel, again no issues. We went to the room which was beginning to heat up but due to exhausted we fell asleep with the fan on. The next day was a day spent out again but this time when we returned to our room, the heat was unbearable and set my asthma a off, it was like exiting a plane in bali. Even with the window open all day long the temperature Ithe room, showing on the unusable thermostat at 29°C. Because of this I was unable to get any sleep at all. When I spoke to someone this time they apologised but advised that this was an ongoing issue, hence the fan. This really is not what I have come to expect from Premier inn and I will certainly not be returning to Hockly heath and advise others to stear well clear...
Read moreBooked our annual Christmas get-together here, was placed in an area away from others, which was good as we were a large group. At least the tables were laid out so we could communicate with each other as last year we were separated. Eventually, we got seated after moving tables as we didn't have enough seats, even though it was communicated earlier in the week.
One guys starter came out garlic flat bread with cheese, it was cold, sent it back and after being microwaved the same plate and bread came back as the bite was seen on the slice, it was soggy and fell apart. Another guest had to complain, and her meal was taken off the bill. Two mixed grills came out both with steak upgrades, which looked completely different to each other. I think an upgrade was missed out. One was sent back due to not being cooked to a persons taste. The deserts are atrocious, not at all like the advertised pictures, only half filled with ice cream. The sauce was one big dollop in the bottom of the glass instead of layered. When complaining the waitress, said that's how they are told to make them up. Finally the waitress refused to accept the blue light card discount, had to complain to the manager was lovely, and she put the card through on the meals, not on the already discounted festive menu.
Sadly, next year we will change our...
