Nawab — Restaurant in Mid Devon

Went in for takeaway. But decided to sit in and eat some Poppadoms and pickle tray while I waited. The lifeless waiter told me to sit outside rather than ask where I wanted to sit. I wanted to sit inside while I waited and I got placed at a table full of glasses and plates...odd. Eventually the more professional server came and removed it all. I wasn't asked if I wanted a drink either? The pickle tray and Poppadoms were delicious though. My mixed kebab starter was slightly dry and boring, even though the flavours were definitely there and chicken tikka Madras full of chunks of garlic. Mushroom Rice was delicious. But the delivery driver whom I was speaking to in the restaurant was the friendliest person there. Seemed to care more about this paying customer than the others. Whilst the food is not bad the staff here are absolutely dreadful and very unwelcoming! The only person who was friendly was the blonde haired lady with the glasses. She actually talked and smiled at us and made feel welcome. As for the rest of the waiting staff well! Made us feel so unwelcome and as though wee were intruding on their time! Whilst there was 8 of us we were out on a family get together! At one point one waiter was taking drinks order and disappeared before we had finished! No smiles no interaction nothing. If that is how you treat your paying customers then you can go do one!!!! Never been made to feel so unwelcome in a restaurant before!!! More interested in getting us out the door! Food is nothing special. It's not bad, but it's not great. Service is awful. Nobody has a set task, so basics are missed. I lost count of the number of people/times we had to ask for drinks. I saw other tables asking for menus, and like us, drinks. Wait staff are not up to the job, it's not a big restaurant, two waiting tables should easily cope, the boss spends his time running around and not managing. People waiting for takeaways walk through the diners, and wait around the bar, clogging up the area between diners and kitchen. We finished eating, but our table wasn't cleared, staff walking past not doing anything other than trying to look busy. Our table still wasn't cleared when we left. Not offered deserts, or coffee.
