Tiverton Castle is the remains of a medieval castle dismantled after the Civil War and thereafter converted in the 17th century into a country house. It occupies a defensive position above the banks of the River Exe at Tiverton in Devon.
During the Civil War the Castle was a Royalist stronghold. Read moreBeautiful, compact castle full of interesting history and artifacts. The grounds are well maintained and the fruit and veggie garden are most impressive, even in autumn which is when we visited. Boots recommended if you venture down the trail to the river! Thoroughly recommended and we're told it's even better...
Read moreDramatically situated above the river Exe Tiverton Castle is ideally placed for not only visiting Tiverton but also exploring Devon and Somerset. Our hosts Alison & Angus were very friendly and hospitable. A traditional Devon cream tea with home made scones was set out to greet us and our free tour of the castle was fascinating. All this and a beautiful garden too make it a very special...
