Ashtead Balti — Restaurant in Mole Valley

Met a friend for what was supposed to be an amazing curry (that’s the feedback we had heard) sadly it was not to be.

So why 2 stars

I arrived was seated and grabbed me some Popadoms and a beer - all good started well. Staff seemed friendly and the restaurant was almost empty (was a Monday)

My friend arrived and before he had sipped a beer and eaten a popadom we were asked if we wanted to order. As per another review this ended up feeling like pestering so we ordered - 1 rice 2 curry’s a garlic naan and a mushroom Bhaji, 5 minutes later we were asked if we were ready as the main was ready - we had barely eaten a popadom. And the bhaji was forgotten !

The food was pretty average to be fair, nice but not amazing.

After we had eaten the table cleared (but not cleaned), a sweet menu was dumped on the table followed by the bill when we said we did not fancy a sweet - service was not really at the level I would have e expected. total cost with the 2 small beers 50 quid ! Not so bad

I made a order to be delivered for my family tonight. Upon receiving the order 1 main was wrong. I had ordered a veg biriyani and got the curry part but the rice was full of meat. I called up and explained, they said another one was on its way but they want the meat one back. I thought this was worrying so said ok but I will add fairy liquid. 3 minutes later I get call from a very angry young man raising his voice and very angry that I would put fairy liquid in food they wanted back. He kept on shouting why. He had called me to be abusive which was very upsetting. This is a restaurant that myself and my family have regularly used for pick ups and in the restaurant for lots of occasions. Amazing service! Easily 10⭐️ rating from me. I had a operation 4 days ago meaning I wanted to get everything organised for my mums birthday dinner well in advance so I didn’t have to worry. Ashtead Balti went above and beyond for me and I am so so great full! The family have never tried your establishment before ( I may have once or twice 😉) and I don’t think they will now choose to go anywhere else! The food arrived for the date and time I asked for. It was all piping hot, smelt and looked amazing. I unfortunately couldn’t join in due to my operation restrictions but I was so gutted because it honestly was all so beautiful!
